We were taliking about lens hoods for the Industar collapsible 50mm lenses over on the Russian forum and I mentioned THIS HOOD . It seems more appropriate to point it out here. This may be old news to Leica users but I figured I'd pass the link along.

I have a SOOGZ ring to accomodate my 'standard' 39mm filters. With that I use the 12585 (if I'm correct) hood for both 35mm and 50mm Elmars.
Versatility is the key for me!

$152 does seem a bit expensive. I use a SOOGZ with a VOOLA ring in it and the standard 12250 lens hood from my Elmar-M to do the same thing. A pic is below and hopefully you'll get the idea...

I have a screw in Series VI filter adapter if anyone is interested. It came on a collapsible 50 Elmar that I've since sold. I have no use for it. I'll mail it to another RF'er for free (and I'll cover the postage) if he or she promises to make a donation to the forum. Just send me a PM.

Peter, what is the thread size on the SOOGZ? While I have a FIKUS hood that's supposed to be good from 35~135mm, I've yet to try it on 35mm. (I just got it two days ago). I saw a SOOGZ on ebay and thought about bidding but let it go because I don't know what diameter thread will fit it.

Isn't a FIKUS just 50-135mm?

Ray, that's what I thought too until I read "The Leica Collector's Guide". Apparently the 1933 version was marked for 35, 50, 90 & 135mm lenses. The later, 1935, version was supposedly only marked for 50, 90 & 135mm. The one I have has four lines and while the lower line isn't identified as 35mm, I'm guessing that's what it's there to indicate. So far I've only used it on my 90mm Elmar so I can't say for certain. I'll let you know after I try it.

While we're on the subject, have a look at the ebay auction I just won. I'm almost certain that it's an adapter for screw-in filters and should work fine for hoods too.

Walker, you lucky man! That looks almost like a SOOGZ. Only the SOOGZ also has a grip-ridge for a hood like the 12585.
If you need that hood-ridge in it, use a Heliopan or a B&W filter. They have a profile the Leitz ones don't.

Sorry Walker I missed your question but Rob gave you the correct answer. Thanks Rob! :) You can use regular 39mm filters on the front of the Elmar 50/3.5 and also on the FSU copies like the Industar-22 with the SOOGZ.

Rob & Peter, thank you both for your replies. This accessory will become multi-purpose for me as I'll use filters and also use it for hoods. I have a FIKUS hood so I'm likely to use this one for a wide-angle hood..... one that won't block the rangefinder or vignette the images.
