50mm FISON hood on a 35mm Summaron ?

Anyone experience a problem using an Elmar 5cm hood (FISON) on a f3.5cm Summaron ? Or on a 3.5cm Elmar for that matter ?

So far so good on my end... no vignette even stopped down.

My opinion... it was a marketing ploy to sell more stuff like the FOOKH.

Must admit I do the opposite, FOOKH on the 5cm Elmar to give better access to the aperture setting.

That’s actually very creative.

I wish I never parted with my 3.5cm Elmar and FOOKH. The pair rendered way better than the Summaron... so generic and boring... the latter.

I have a Fison Hood for my 50 Elmar, along with the Szoog filter adapter which I've never had any problems. Like other people saying it's awkward to adjust the scale on the front; but live with it. Most of the time I leave it at 5.6, and always shoot with a tripod.

Kismet. I asked this yesterday in another thread. I've used the FISON today without incident. I can see the advantage of the FOOKH for the 5cm Elmar. I am curious about George's disparagement of the 35mm Summaron: I see more often the opposite contention, also likely disputable, that the Summaron is better than the Elmar. Anyway I have a little screw mount Summaron and it is sharp and renders skin tones beautifully on the M9. The other advantage of the FISON is that the same cap for the lens will cap the hood.

Personally, I don’t want my model’s posterior pimples to render sharp, accurate and with exaggerated contrast as in an image created by a Summaron. The Elmar, albeit a 50 or 35, has a real to life look, similar to star gazing.

Not sure I understand this. One of the properties of my 1932 uncoated 50 Elmar that I enjoy is that it seems not quite real life —more like an earlier life, or a hyper-reality without blemishes, as you alluded to. E.g.

Beautiful Erik. For a subject so shallow in depth there is a wonderful three dimensionality in this which is something I have seen mentioned in reference to the Summaron and which I am getting a hint of in the first 48 hours using mine.

So, the FISON hood can be used on a Summaron 35/3.5 without vignetting?


(note the Elmar 35 front element is smaller than the front element of Summaron 35/3.5,
so the hood can be deeper for the Elmar 35. In fact, there is a deeper FOOKH variation for it.)

Yes, and so can be the FIKUS hood when set at 5cm.

I have used the FIKUS hood on my Elmar 35 (1941, uncoated). I have not noticed any vignetting. ( I keep the FIKUS completely collapsed on the Elmar 35. )

I have no hands-on experience with the 35 mm Summaron, but the Elmar 35 seems to render a bit soft towards the edges.
