Hi guys,

I have a couple of questions about my 1970 50mm Summicron. I bought it used and got it in pretty good shape. Firstly, the barrel markings have faded quite a bit and in some places they are completely gone. I was wondering if any of the major CLA firms offer refurbishing of the barrel engravings. (I'm also considering having this done on my 35 Cron as well). While searching, I did find references to the hardened paint sticks offered by Micro-Tools (http://www.micro-tools.com/store/item_detail.aspx?ItemCode=L51120) and while I will likely go this route in the end, I was still curious if this kind of work is offered by DAG/Sherry, etc.

Secondly, there is one marking that confuses me. It's the '19' at the infinity end of the focus ring just after the 'm' for the meter scale. I have scoured the web for answers to both of these questions with no luck. If anyone knows the answers to either of these questions I would be very grateful.

Thanks!

I think the '19' means your Summicron has length 51.9mm.

Any modeling white paint will do to restore the barrel markings.

Best,

Roland.

This marking means your lens has an exact focal length of 51.9 mm.
