David Richert, over at Classic Cameras (pre-1970) Forum on photo.net, is holding another contest for classic cameras. This time it's for cameras made in the 1950s: 50's Classic Camera Contest. I'm sure there are a number of rangefinders here that qualify. Join the fun.

Be great to have more people enter this contest. The last one was good fun. I shall be entering with a Kodak Retinette and a Gevabox II.

Does anybody know how to tell the year it was built from the serial number of a FED 2? I'd like to use my FED-2b (V.5 according to Jim Blazik), but it has a rather high serial number for that model (222 414), so I'm not sure whether it was still built in the 1950s... How long was the FED-2b (V.5) - that's the one that already has flash synch, but still uses the old shutter speed progression w/ 1/25, 1/50 etc. - built, anyway?

The excellent history of the Fed 2 on this site:
http://www.geocities.com/fzorkis/fed2_1.html
gives some indication of years of production. But you've probably already read it.

I may have a go at this contest also. Just got a mint Agfa Synchro Box camera that takes 120 film and has a built in yellow filter too. Just cleaned it up and it looks in mint condition. It shoots a 6x9 negative..Got a roll of XP2 for it also. It dates from 1950-1958 I think.

These are my weapons of choice for the 50s Contest. Hmmm. Two TLRs and only one rangefinder (I will be making a cardboard rangefinder for the Agfa.) My Speed graphic and Leica IIIc are too old and my FEDs are too new.

yep! its a bit larger than the average rangfinder but it is built pretty solid - I am getting some film back fromt he lab this week with test shots - the cam numbers an numbers on the lenses does not fit on two of the 3 lenses - cant decide what 3 cemras to use for the competition - probably end up with the rollei, the leica and the linhof or the super ikonta, leica and linhof or --h... this is hard I might end up being disqualified for entering all of them - I really like the cameras from the fifties - the vitesse is very "modern" in design compared when you think of it - is early 1950
