is this possible?
Pardon me being stupid, if this is a stupid question 🙂
I have tried searching, but ".58" is too short of a query for the RFF search function... haha

Anyways- i wear glasses. I liked the layout of the Hexar RF's finder, hated the R3A, and it has been a while since i messed with a M6 (.72, or any really). I am pretty sure i will want a .58, but most that i see are $1500 or more- and i'd like to keep the initial investment closer to $1000.

anyways- thanks!

Chris

yes, i understand that my only option if i want a camera with FACTORY .58 finder at that price is the .58 M6 TTL (or another Hexar haha)....

i am asking if i could get a cheap M6 "classic", then later send it off to DAG or Shelly, and have a .58 finder crammed into the poor hunk of metal.

does anybody have any clue as to whether it would be cost-effective, or a completely horrible idea?

Thanks again 🙂

Your most cost effective option is to find a camera with the .58 built in. Swapping it out later would probably raise your total investment to over $2000.

Some years ago Don Goldberg swapped my 0.72 finder in my Millennium M6 to a 0.58. I had two bodies, a standard M6 TTL 0.58 and the Millennium 0.72 - he simply swapped them between cameras. It is possible, but I suspect that it would be cheaper to sell your M6 and pick up a 0.58 TTL M6 instead.
The 0.58 is fine with the 28/35, the 50/75 is a bit small but does work - the 90 is marginal at best.
Out of my stash of M6/MP's - three are 0,58's as I tend to be biased towards the 35 focal length, one is a 0.85 and two are 0.72's.

Nice stash, Tom!

I'd ask DAG. He gave me a reasonable quote for a different RFer for my M3, but I decided against it after wise counsel from RFF members.

i see myself mostly shooting 35 and a certain 15mm heliar that everybody loves.... so realisitically, i will prob be just fine with a .72 finder. I don't do enough 28mm to justify it, although the extra room would be nice.

'course, there is always the Ikon 🙂

you guys who are suggesting the R4_.... are you aware of the Zeiss Ikon's great finder? If i was going to go with a non-Leica RF at this point, the Ikon would certainly be it. I loved the size and usefulness of the Hexar's framelines, but i didn't like the built in winder and accompanying "squeak" the camera had.
