Anyone else shoots the rare 5x7" format here?

Took out my dusty ideal 5x7" camera with Dagor Anastigmat 12cm f6.3 lens the other day and loaded some unknown Soviet film into it expired way back in 1970s. Just to see if the shutter works, but the results... erm... kind of lo-fi. But somehow I LOVE the results to bits. Feels like doing sort of lo-fi Lomography but on planetary scales so to speak 🙂

Images are not coloured by me - just scanned 'em as colour images through a drumscanner.

I guess the art is seeing an art within art, or something like this... 😀 I must start shooting portraits with this unknown 5x7" film! 😎

Collects a bit dust at the moment, but I'm planning a project for fall this year.
I've still some packs expired ORWO NP20 in the fridge...

Hehe, I know what you mean. The hat trick sounds very artistic though and I guess it's very usable when stopping down that LF lens (most go f32+) 😀

Yeah, lucky I am. I got it as a kind of severance payment from one of my earlier employer.
A camera where you can feel - longevity was a high principle during conception - a complete different haptic than (for example) later (80s/90s) Sinars...

This thread encouraged me to take the camera out of the cabinet for a few tests.
First time after 10-15 years that I look at a 5x7" neg ... impressive IQ.

I have used 5x7 for the last several years. But I am selling my here on RFF in the classified section. As much as I love it, I do not have time to use it any more. So if anyone is looking for a great deal on a 5x7....please come check out my ad here at RFF for my Cambo 5x7 with 2 lenses. I still use 5x7 graphics art film for special tonal separation projects. What people back in the 70's called posterization.

So I just don't have any spare time anymore.

5x7 is a new experience for me, I have always used 4x5 and sometimes 8x10 for large format. Several years ago I picked up a 5x7 Sinar Norma Conversion kit and peformed the necessary restoration work to put in into service.

Shot some 5x7 FOMA film as a test and I was impressed. I should get out and work with this more if I have the time to do so. I also picked up some 5x7 Shanghai film at a good price so I have about 100 sheets to burn. 🙂

Checking my 5x7 inventory in my deep freeze, I picked up last year fifty sheets of 5x7 Ilford HP5+ which is my preferred large format emulsion. I have fifty sheets of 5x7 FOMA 100 and fifty sheets of 5x7 FOMA 200 B&W. And 150 sheets of 5x7 Shanghai.

I shoot a lot of 5x7. It's just big enough for a decent sized contact print, and the film is cheaper than 8x10. But I shoot that too...and a lot of wetplate...

Here are two of my view cameras, in the front, is my restored 5x7 Sinar Norma. It turned out rather well. 🙂 Behind that, is one of my 4x5 Plaubel Peco Profias. They are mounted to a Plaubel Peco Profia Studio Camera Stand that could easily accommodate lifting the front end of a car 😀

Those photos are a lot of fun! If you run out of film, all you have to do is buy some new Russian film and shoot it in the year 2053.. results should be consistent! I'll check back with you in 40 years 🙂

I have a 5x7 Technika, and it's probably my favorite camera to shoot with.
(Not necessarily my favorite to carry, but that's another issue. )
I definitely prefer it to 4x5, both for the size, and the proportions.

I've got a Shen Hao 5 by 7, but haven't had time to use it much yet.

I'll either keep it or sell it sometime, but I like these.
