So, I searched and searched and can't seem to find the answer.

I see ads in the classified pretty often saying that the lens is not 6-bit coded. Are there any negative affects to using a 6-bit coded lens on an M6 rather than an M8?

6-bit coded lenses work as fine as non-coded lenses on any film (M) camera. I use two 6-bit coded lenses with both, the M4-P and M6TTL. If you have plans to buy a M8 at some point in the future (or already have an M8) it makes some sense to buy 6-bit coded lenses now and save the money for having them coded later.

Nope, no negative effects. M6 is a film camera. 6 bit coded lenses makes no difference any of Leica's film camera. Functionally they are totally the same.

Cheers,
