6 bit Coding for Dual Hexanon

I love to use the Dual hex 21/35mm on my RD1 and soon to be returned M8.
What lens should I code it as?
It brings up 35mm framelines.
I want the coding only for 21mm use.
Does the M8 read the flange and coding to determine a lens?
Should I use WATE or 21elmarit or ???

Yes it does. Leica 21mm's (and the WATE) bring up 28/90 framelines, so even if you were to re-cam the lens so it could access 21mm cyan-corner correction, then you would no longer have 35mm framelines for when you use 35mm focal length.

IIRC 24mm lenses bring up 35mm framelines, so you might try non-permanent hand-coding as the various 24mm's (1.4, 2.8, 3.8) and see if by luck one of them corrects the cyan corners well enough @ 21mm on your lens. Then you could permanently code it. If that coding causes reddish corners when using 35mm, you'd need to remember to turn off UV+IR lens recognition each time, and hopefully that lens @ 35mm wouldn't show cyan corners with an IR and no correction.

The other option of course is PanoTools or Cornerfix after-the-fact. It's what I do with the 12mm Voitlander lens.

I think if and when the M9 comes and doesn't need IR filters, even us who have gotten used to them will be reminded of how obnoxious the whole issue is.

I had mine coded as a 21/2.8 Elmarit. I use a Voigtlander 28/35 mini finder for the 21 focal lenth. I didn't change what framelines the Hex brings up on the M8. I left it as is, so I can use the 35mm framelines in the M8. It works great. No cyan vignetting at all. I had DAG do it and it took a 3 week turn-a-around.

If your duel Hexar is coded for a 21mm Elmarit (and the code works), then the framelines were changed to bring up the 28/90 framelines. The flange must be coded to match the framelines of the lens intended or the camera will not recognize the lens at all.

With the Hexar 35/21, these are your options - (1) code the flange for some 24/35 lens, or (2) change the flange to bring up the 28/90 framelines and code the lens as a 21. You cannot mix and match these flange/six-bit code combinations at your discretion and expect the code to work.

Thanks guys for the responses. So sounds like it is best to code for a 24mm and/or use corner fix in PP. I want the 35mm frame lines to come up.

I had John Millich mill in the recesses for coding on the original Hexar bayonet. I found that coding as the 24 Elmar 3.8 is the best compromise.
The lens when mounted still brings up the 35mm framelines.
A very useful lens on the M8. A great companion to the Tri Elmar when you are traveling.
