My search mojo must be weak as I cannot find the recommended 6 bit coding/what the Leica lens in the M's menu would be - for the Zeiss ZM 35 1.4

Thanks but the ZM lens has a flatter curvature of field than the Ultron.

maybe leave it uncoded when there is no color shift? repair vignette in post.

Yes - there is no noticeable colour cast in the corners without coding. There is quite a lot of vignetting wide open, but I would rather correct this in post processing than have it baked in to the raw file.
I wish that Leica would provide an option just to record the lens metadata, without changing the raw data in any way.
BTW, the Zeiss is just phenomenal with a digital sensor. Sharp where it counts. Excellent bokeh. One of the best lenses that I have ever used on any format.

As far as I understand, all that coding does is channel and aperture-dependent vignetting correction. The two lenses behave quite similarly, in B+W at least:
The 'Lux vignettes a little less wide open, so there will be some ZM vignetting left that can be corrected in post, if necessary. And - as noted above - color casts should not be an issue.

Thanks for the info. It seems uncoded is best as using Lux 35 Asph coding introduces 'fixes' that it does not need.
Just shot it last night at an AfterBurn event. Results are great but the size/length is a bit of a bummer. It intrudes heavily in the VF, and the near same length as a short tele makes it harder to pack in my current set up.

It's a beautifully engineered lens, I love the IQ from the Zeiss 35/1.4 ... but I agree with Huss, the size + length are a bit chunky. It makes the camera feel a bit front-heavy.
When I don't need the speed, the Cron 35/2 does nicely. The Cron is tiny compared to the Zeiss, but life is full of compromises, ain't it? 🙂

The weight is fine, the problem is the length, and the vf blockage because it is so long.
The focus , on mine at least, is much heavier than with Leica glass.
I gotta shoot it more, to see how I feel about it. Makes u realize how awesome lenses like Summicron and lux 35s are, as they are tiny as well as really good.
