Looking for 65mm lens for Linhof 23 (use with cam). Which other than Angulon 65/6.8 will fit this camera in closed position. Super angulon 65/8 looks to be out. Need resonable movements. Lens from 1950-60. (other lenses in use Doppel anastigmat III/2 180mm 1903, Heliar 105/3.5 1936, Linhof Xenar 180mm). Need something in this direction with signature for fine art silver prints.

Thanks.

I think Bob (Salomon) over at Largeformat.info (forum) has the best answer for this ?

I don't think any other lens will allow you to close the camera, except possibly a 65/6.3 Wray or Ross (if you can find one). I've used 'baby' Linhofs for decades (and once smashed the ground glass trying to close a 65 SA...) What's the objection to an Angulon?

Also, bear in mind that there are no 'reasonable movements' with the 65mm lens in place: the standard crashes into the top of the body, and the bellows bind.

Without movements, and without being able to close the body, but with a helical mount, you can however use a 47mm SA...

EDIT: Can't find either Wray (whom I know to have made a wide angle for 6x9) or Ross (who I think made one) on Google.

Cheers,

R.

Thanks, Roger. I expected this reply, but was not sure. 65SA is a very nice lens, so I need to make a choice between 65A and 65SA. I hope that it was an option to move back the ground glass or film holder and fix it before closing of the camera in order not to put the lens in and out all the time. Is there any problems wth closing of the front cover with 65SA. There is some risk with ground glass, but with roll film backs it seems to be acceptable.

Is this 65SA worth to have against 65A? Actualy I looking in direction of 65SA with all mentioned above. Thanks.

Dear Alex,

The SA is sharper and can be used at full aperture: the Angulon needs to be stopped down to f/11 or (ideally) f/16-22. It also allows virtually no movement. But if you're trying for the vintage look, the Angulon may prove more appropriate.

Cheers,

R.
