Dear Ezzie,
Why not just crop from an 8x10?
(Sorry, couldn't resist).
Cheers,
R.

what?
Boy that is a nice piece of work.
Trying to understand why the film is curved convex like that when I was thinking it should be concave, but I will study up on that.
Great stuff !

Technically that would of course be the far superior, and easier route. I however have a propensity for overcoming pointless challenges, that and this being far cheaper, from which I find a strange sense of satisfaction - may be a Scottish congenital trait. Total outlay less than £5 (I was gifted the case, so did not get to enjoy the wine however).

As seen by the pinhole the film is indeed concave. You may be mixing up front and rear halves.

I see.
I misunderstood a sentence in your web page write-up . . .
"OK, the edges would need to be farther away from the pinhole than the centre. . . ."

Ah, I see. What I meant is that the curve is not entirely semi-circular, more a parabolic curve. So the edges are not equidistant to the pinhole, though still closer than the same point would have been with a flat film plane.

Thank you Peter. Some point in time I may make a pointless exercise of making an 8x10

One reason could be the developing... 120 is a bit easier to develop if you don't have a proper darkroom (and develop the film by using a changing bag). Or one might only have a developing tank for 135/120.

I have dabbled a bit with 4x5, but I haven't high hopes for making the transition to 8x10. 5x7 however may be interested in trying one day.Have you seen the price of 8x10 film??!
