Are there any medium format cameras that can photograph like the Pentax 6x7 on a Polaroid?

Asking because I have a Hasselblad Polaroid back but the image it photographs on those Polaroids is just a tiny square and it's kind of annoying :bang: I want the full picture!

There were Polaroid backs made for most medium format cameras. I have one for my Linhof Technika 70 which fills out the whole 7 x 9.5cm image of the Polaroid/Fuji.

Hi Sara,

Polaroid 340, Polaroid 110A/B mods, NPC 195Pro, Mamiya Universal, Konica instant press, Razzle 4x5" conversion ... but pack film is expensive. Unless you are scanning the resulting polaroids, it's faster/cheaper to just "Chimp" the shot on the back of a DSLR.

If you're looking for an SLR that can cover the full area of a type 100 polaroid, I think the answer is 'no'. There are a couple of rangefinder options, mentioned above. I've owned and used the 600SE and a converted 110A. The latter is a far better solution, in my book. You can also pick up some cheaper more automated models (there are dozens), or this guy does some great conversions to manual versions: http://www.polaroidconversions.com/

If you're looking for a medium format camera that can make the most of (but not all) the area on the packfilm, the RB67 (and presumably RZ67) do a good job. Because they have to accomodate a revolving back, the rear aperture is far larger than 120 film requires. On my polaroid back, you get a square image that is the full height of the shorter side on the polaroid...if that makes sense. The Fuji GX680 does a good job here also, but it is a real tripod beast.

Robert - the joy and worth of polaroids can be independent of scanning the results or checking exposure! I do declare there is no greater shooting pleasure than a two-hour photo wander resulting in 20 unique prints. Truly irreproducible.

There's a polaroid back for the 6x7... it's not easy to use like most cameras, but if you don't wish to use 120\220 film on it, you can use this special back.

The RB67 does use the polaroid back pretty well with fuji fp film.

the price of a quality linhof or even a 4x5 crown graphic with polaroid back will set you back about the same as a good quality polaroid 180/195, and the polaroid model will be much lighter, much more straightforward to use and much more compact. the 114mm tominon lens is an excellent performer in both the f3.8 and the f4.5 variety.

The Mamiya RB and RZ both have polaroid backs available and cover a little larger than 6x7, if I recall, but not the full 'frame.' I think a couple different backs were available for the RZ, one made by NPC and able to cover something on the order of 7.x cm, but I'm not certain on this.

The polaroid 600SE is a great option, as another poster mentioned. Perhaps a little cheaper might be a Mamiya Universal with polaroid back and adapter. These will provide full coverage.

Polaroid is quarter plate size, about 8x10cm - among cameras designed primarily for medium format rollfilm, only the Mamiya Universal Press (and its Polaroid branded sibling, the 600SE) can cover that, replacing the entire back with a Polaroid frame.

The RB in its later incarnations can cover 8x8 with matching Polaroid backs and some lenses, and IIRC so will the Fuji GX680. The RZ only does a little less than 7x7, while non-rotating back 6x7 cameras like the Bronica GS-1, Mamiya 7 and the Pentax 6x7 family are limited to 6x7.

As far as I know, no other medium format camera will do - but the (9x9) Makiflex would come close (if you hack up a back that can hold a Polaroid pack film holder - it is too thick for their regular slide-under 4x5 sheet film holder).

As I posted a year ago, the 6x9 Linhofs like the Technika 23 or the Technika 70 will cover the full polaroid/fuji frame as well. I would not be surprised if there were polaroid backs for graflex XL cover as well.

The polaroid backs by Linhof are hard to find and tend to be pricey. I ended up getting a generic polaroid holder part from ebay and 3d printing the connection to the body. It fits alright, but tends to have a lightleak. I am now working on an improved version which I will laser cut in acrylic which I will stack in layers. Hopefully this one will be fully functional.
