70mm Film FUN up ahead

My 100" (8.3') reel is 5.25" diameter so finding right SS dish was relatively easy. It's also very easy to pour developer out, pour water for stop, dump it and pour fixer in the dark. If you use much larger quantities of liquids maybe you have to have separate vessels for each step? Especially if you are planning to process multiple reels at once. You need to basically create dip and dunk line.

Good question. From my memory they are a little larger than 7 inches in diameter and I think 7 3/8 inch might be an ideal size.

I have a total of three of these: two are extra heavy Nikors; one is a Kindermann.

The height is a little proud of 3 inches and in the non daylight Nikor tank I have that resembles a stainless steel hat box it takes about 2 liters of liquid to cover a reel.

Anyways this is "Monster" photography at its best. LOL. Shooting 7 1/4 to 7 1/2 pound 70mm rigged baby Linhof's is a bit crazy. Then shooting a Linhof like a Leica adds another layer. "Crazy is good," I say.

The idea here is to shoot a lot and cheaply. I believe I can go back in time and pay less than $3.00 a roll of 120 equiv by exploiting Rollie 400S in bulk. This is new manufacture film and not dated film. Only thing is you have to order from Macrodirect in Germany to get the pricing.

BTW John the Moderator her on RFF first used the term "Monster" to describe my cameras. I fully accessorized my rigs and they are kinda pimped out. Even my Leicas featured TA Rapidgrips, TA Rapidwinders, and kinda resembled Nikon F3P with motordrive. I kinda did this to annoy John. LOL. Know that John is kind of a big guy who likes compact cameras.

We photographers are funny guys. LOL.

This is my thinking also.

Mark Cuban says, "Go big or don't go."

I figured out how to get Diafine's profound compensating effect to work great for me. This impacts greatly my development as I have Part A development and Part B development.

Add onto this that I have interest in 8x10 and I already own a Nikor 18 120/220 reel rack for dip and dunk.

A few years back when film was half the cost I shot 150 rolls of film a month on average and did marathon processing for 7-8 months of a shooting season.

Thanks for your help in getting clarity. I wonder if those Kodak 8x10 hard rubber tanks will accommodate my Nikor 18 reel rack. I also wonder if the 8x10 tank is wide enough and if I could use one of these hard rubber tanks as a film safe for loaded reels.

Boy I can see ordering a few of these and then having Homeland Security paying me a visit. Otherwise not a bad idea.

Off-topic, but you would be surprised how data mining works. I bought a series of expensive watches: two for me: and two for my gal. I'm talking true luxury items and prices.

I bought my gal a LV bag, and I bought myself a LV bag that I love for me to use as a camera bag.

I kinda paid all these off right away, but somehow eventually I was mistaken as a wealthy guy and perhaps even a billionaire. Somehow I got a free subscription to Forbes magazine, just in case I wanted to purchase a small country. I got an invite to join the "Hudson Society" where I could meet heads of state, prime ministers, and world leaders. Got all these invites to opportunities to socialize with other wealthy people at the Russian Tea Room on 57th Street. Got all these invites to hear celebs talk that were not open to the general public.

At one point within one year I got invited 4 times to meet Mayor Bloomburg. I have a picture of me shaking Mike's hand on the porch of Gracie Mansion. Funny thing is I wore my ethnic clothes and was the only man at this party not wearing a suit, wearing a Hawiian shirt and looking like a surfer. LOL.

The other three invites I snubbed the Mayor. LOL.

I've been unable to get into flikr to post photo proof, but I'm 99% sure three Nikor reels will go into a Kodak 3F 3 1/2 gallon tank. Two of my 70mm reels fit in the tank, with room for a third. So you could run three rolls at once! I may buy a few more nylon reels, and a dipstick, they are only $10 each. I have four 3.5 gallon tanks, with floating lids for each. Also they made a tank top that I think is lighttight. I need to get four of those. I also have a 3F wash tank, which needs a hose.

Thanks again.

I've been researching. I see the floating lids, and then there is this secondary type of lid that I think will provide light tightness. I figure I will also require a film safe to keep loaded reels dry until I have a batch of two or three.

My Nikor 18 reel tray is different than your (I believe Arkie) 18 reel tray. I do believe your Arkie rack loaded with 18 reels of 120/220 will fit the 3 1/2 gallon Kodak 8x10 hard rubber tanks. Do you know if your's fits?

Yep it sure does fit like a glove. I also have a Kodak 4x5 4-up hanger basket, fully loaded. That will do fifty-four 4x5s in one go.

Also I have 8x10 Kodak Hangers that fit the basket fully. That will do eighteen sheets of 8x10 in one go.

OK Here is one of my 3F 8x10 tanks. As you can see you can do three 70mm 15 foot rolls at a time, Cal.
I have three of these regular tanks, and a wash tank. I need to plumb up a hose arrangement for that one.

I got these brand new. The Guy was using them as wastebaskets 🙂 LOL
 
From the internet. Kodak Daylight Lid for 3F 3.5 gal tank. This one looks well used.

Notice he was running Kodak DK-50. THAT is deep tank developer. I want Harvey's 777 (the real stuff) from Bluegrass. They sell that in lots of five, one gallon bags. Replenisher too. I've tried a couple of times to get this stuff, they are always out of it. They make it when they run out. They own the patent on it.

Herveys is really really legendary. Unbelievable with 5222 XX or about anything.

Hi Jukka!

I was hoping you would come along, and relay some of your 70mm experiences. I remember you used a lot of Plus-X Aero Reccon (the 500 foot rolled thin base stuff) in your Hasselblads. I have always admired your style of work.

I have a roll exposed but have yet to develop it. I've read it behaves like regular old Plus-X for the most part.

There was a Guy in Utah that had a large stock of this film ten years ago, I bought a roll on Ebay for $80.

Five hundred feet is a lot of film!

I had problems with Flikr for several days recently, and held off posting new things.
It seems to be OK now from my side, I can now see everything.

As for reels...
How do you load them? As Paterson or more like SS ones?
