I think that's a great idea. As Bill says, folks are too polite to speak honestly. Annonamous postings of photos could be critiqued more openly, for those who want feedback.
I try to comment a few pics each time I come to RFF. Because many pics I choice the ones which more impresse me at first glance. In some cases I would like to make a sort of constructive criticism, but feel afraid that photographer could see as a too negative comment and as consequence I prefer not to comment. Not knowing people I'm not sure who like it or not. Other times because of language I'm afraid to be misunderstood, there are concepts not easy to be explained in a foreign language.
Also usefull a notification when other people leave a comment on your pics, I found someone leave a message on my photo and I read it weeks later. It makes more difficult a mutual exchange of ideas. But anyway I like this site !

The only thing bothering me is the lack of ratings in the rate my photo section. Maybe because people are just uploading snapshots? I've stopped posting in there now because no one seems to be doing any rating...
I don't know about other members, but I just can't see assigning a simple numerical rating, as photos are much more complex than that allows. Indeed even if there were separate rating numbers to be assigned for various photographic characteristics, I'm not sure that's reasonable either. What would an 8 for Composition really mean? It implies there's a linear progression from bad to good. I just don't give ratings to photos.
