75 ap cron or lux?

Hi

I have a question about the 75 M's

I knew about the summarit 75 which is rather new.
but
I noticed only recently that there's a 75/2 summicron APO how does this compare to the 75 1.4 lux, which one is newer? are they any differences in drawing?
I always thought there's only the 90/2 APO. (and the prohibitively expensive recently announced 50 cron APO..)
does the 75 lux match the cron at F2? anybody owns both? how do you descripe the character of those lenses?

if somebody here own's a 75 apo some posted pics would be welcome, especially wide-open stuff. easy to find 75 lux shots on the web, there is scarcer information about the APO.

I had Lux 75/1.4. it is a great optics, but did not work out for me. Simply not my focusing distance (I prefer 50mm). However, I regret to sell it, when now the prices went up really high. So, if you manage to buy it unexpensive, you can try and sell it in future, since this lens is always in high demand (not sure why).

I kept the 75mm Summicron. Smaller, lighter, a little sharper. And the 75mm f/1.4 is very critical to focus!

Have a look at what Puts writes about the performance of the Summilux f2 and up (in "Leica M-Lenses - Their Soul and Secrets").

The only disadvantage of the Summilux for practical photography is its size. And you will need to fine tune one of your M bodies to focus it accurately at close focus ....

The 75/2 is a very modern lens, small and with a short focus throw. I use it traveling with a 35 and those two focal lengths cover 95% of what I shoot. Its close-up (0.7M) performance is stunning because of the FLE. Great lens.

no easy answer for this question

do you need the 1.4? if yes, you will have to compromise on the size and weight - get the summilux 75, all said and done it is an incredible lens

can you live with f2? if yes, then the APO 75 is a brilliant lens. compact, very well balanced (atleast on my m9) and a great performer

now, if you can live with f2, can you live with f2.5?

if yes, get the heliar 75/2.5 LTM - simply awesome from any angle you look at it and will cost you around US$500

if it must be a leica for you then do look at the summarit 75/2.5 - you will need to pixel peep and spend a considerable amount of time in learning the characteristics of the APO 75 and Summarit 75 ... to be able to accurately tell the difference

there is also the newer heliar 75/1.8 but i've never shot with it so i wont give you theoretical advice

i have the summilux 75, APO 75, heliar 75 and if i had to keep only one, id keep the summilux 75

at the end of it all, i recommend the 1.4x magnifier to make sure your shots are in proper focus. no point paying a lot to buy a great lens and screwing the shots up due to inaccurate focusing

welcome to the 75mm state of mind. i love this focal length (on a full frame camera) as its not as distant as a 50mm sometimes is and neither is it in your face as a 90mm can be

I have the 2.0 APO and the Summilux. The Summilux gets used a lot, and shows it. The Summicron not so much. Focusing at minimum distance and 1.4 is tricky but it can be done. If I had to keep one, it would be the Summilux, hands down.

Never had the Summilux, I shoot the Summicron and it never leaves me wanting.

I'm tempted by the lux for the 1.4, but the cron speaks with it's size benefit, and wideopen performance,
I will try to get my hands on both in a store, to make my mind up, and when the right price
drops I might jump on one.
