Tried the 75 summilux with KC the other day. The results blew me away.

This happens with Leica lens for me, I expect the [Leica] glass to make a difference and then when it really does my heart still skips a few beats.

The 75mm Summilux is just one of those lenses that just does it: The colors, the tonal range (especially with B&W), bokeh, 'style of' sharpness - there is no doubt in my mind its a Leica lens that does everything a Leica lens is suppose to do. Dr. Walter Mandler at his best... !

well... Not to rain on the parade but i am not sure about the super strong red skin and dogskin.
I mean, it's a bit too red.
Not a bit, a lot.
Otherwise,great image.

Yes, now that someone else has said it.

Yeah, this picture is bad for my wallet too. Man, that's nice. I've been thinking of a 75 lux for a while, and now I can't STOP thinking about it!

Can you guys tell me - I've heard it's a very difficult lens to focus wide open, so much that some people just never get it. Is that right?

it is a pain in the hand, not just to focus, but to hold up to your eye, it does have some potential as glass tho....

I found that to be true. I practiced quite a bit, even mounting one of Lutz's "steers," but never got a good hit rate with it. I also gave up on a lens I liked even more, the pre-Aspherical Summicron 90; I think that lens has the best wide open "bokeh" of any lens I've owned, but, again, the number of keepers was just too small. In practical use, I've found the Canon 85/1.2 produces nearly the same look and far more keepers. 🙂

I agree with Kevin that the Canon 85mm/1.2L produces many keepers. Mine is in FD mount, and it just got CLA'd for a stuck aperture. For RF photography, I have been happy with the fast Summicron first/second version with built-in hood. I can easily focus it on my M3 or M6 [0.85]. Even the Canon 85mm/1.5 is manageable on the M6 and also on the P after I got the Canon P adjusted for accurate RF focusing.

I like the colors alot, gonna try a bit more this year to shoot color and this film looks like a winner. Is it me or is the focus off a tad? The dog looks like it's a bit soft if that was the focal point. Great shot and great film.

That's what I thought too, when I first looked at it, but I was afraid it was my monitor here.

I like the composition, but it looks too red and saturated to be "kodachromish", to me, anyway.

I found that the new Leica 1.40X magnifier made the focusing much faster. The 50mm frames remain visable, but my eye has to do some very wide scanning to see them. The price is worth it ($349.00) and the focus becomes fast and snappy. (Used with a M6 classic w/0.72 finder) Had to add a M-Grip also.

If I had to, I'd sell all my other gear except my 35/2.0 V.4 Summicron to keep a lite two lense kit. I'd still be in heaven. I'm spoiled by all the smooth bokeh and the look. Usage is split 50/50. My problem now is I need a second M-body.

Sorry to add to the pain in your wallet. Good luck.
