I just got a 75 Summilux yesterday and noted that without the IR filter, you get considerable flare from a lot of different directly-lit objects (metal and glass - not just black plastic or synthetic materials). Is the Summilux unusually transmissive of IR radiation?

IME, I don't think so, except to the extent that perhaps all pre-1990s lenses transmit more IR. I've noticed more IR "contamination" w/my 1980s-era 75 Summilux & Noctilux than my modern 1990s-era 35 Summilux (& significantly more IR transmitted by single-coated lenses from the '60s, '50s, & '40s & uncoated lenses).

At least up to f/5.6 (I ran out of light at that point).

If you mean the purple fringing around highlights - that has nothing to do with flare or the lens. it is called sensor blooming and all sensors exhibit this. It is caused by too high contrast edges.
