75mm Shootout?

Quite possibly the 75mm Summicron ASPH is Leica's best M lens in terms of resolution and contrast. I picked up a 50mm Summilux ASPH, and these new M lenses are just phenomenal, even in practical, day to day shooting. I have been impressed with the 50mm lens. Reports are that the 75mm if anything is better. Lenses don't guarantee a good picture, but these are quite good, and expensive.

One more point: I played with one of these 75mm Summicrons at a Leica Day. The size and weight and lens hood are very neat. Much more convenient then the 75mm Summilux.

Just one more point: An article in Shutterbug said the lens was great, but the 75mm framelines take some getting use to. I looked in my camera, and yes, they are a pain, because they are dashed and not solid; and very few dashes at that.

I've got three CV lenses 25/4 35/1.7 75/2.5 and I'd say the 75 is the sharpest of the group a really excellent lens and not just because it's cheap

It's sharper than my Nokton ! And it has a nice 3d look, sometimes it looks like a MF lens ! Very fine detailed and vivid photos !

The 75 Summicron is the best lens I've EVER used, in any format, and I've used some very good ones, including the CV 50/3.5 Heliar, a 75mm/2.8 Xenotar on a Rolleiflex D, a Zeiss 80 on a Hasselblad, and the Mamiya 110/2.8 for the RZ67 Pro II.

If you want samples, look in my gallery - "Hats", "Wheel of Fortune", "Ribbons", and "Headshot" were all taken with this lens. It's expensive. So is a car accident, but it's not as much fun. Get one and use it. It lives more or less permanently on my MP now, and it's just incredible.

75mm f2 Highest resolution and king of the sweet spot

I think I shall look for a used f1.4 and failing that a new f2.

You should be able to pickup a 75 Summilux for much less than the cost of the Summicron in that the Summilux has been around for several years. Aside from its heft, there is not much to criticize with the Summilux. Sure, the Summicron benefits from the latest technology and therefore, greater resolution. This will be most noticeable at F2 - F2.8. By F4, the Summilux is as sharp as my APO Summicron 90 ASPH, but with softer, gentler OOF. Don't get me wrong; I want the 75 Summicron, and my plan is to eventually purchase one because its fingerprint is different from the Summilux, and that is why I want it. But I will still keep and use the Summilux; I can't ever see not using it. It yields beautiful results.

I am in love with the Summilux. Mine is the first version, no problem in balancing, handling or focusing. And my M2 doesn't even have frames for it!
