7Artisans 35mm on M7 test

Straight off, I'm a 7Artisans fan. I love their 50 1.1, and just picked up this 35mm f2, used but like new, for $190. New I think it is $250 ish?
I also have the Leica 35mm Asph f2, Zeiss ZM 35 1.4, CV 35 1.2, Summaron 35 3.5, and the mighty Lomo Minitar Art 32.2.8...

This is from my first roll of film - Kodak ProImage 100 - in a Leica M7. Images scanned with a Nikon Z7 and converted with negativelabpro.com software.
No protective filter on the lens (with a lens this cheap..) and no lens hood. One image is shot with the sun just out of frame in order to see how it handles flare. Better than my 35mm Leica Asph...
One image also has a 1:1 crop to show detail.

Bottom line, this lens is a freakin' steal.

It’s akshully an OG Greek fisherman’s cap but I wear it backwards to take pics as otherwise the brim gets in the way.

I fear the lack of click strops would bother me on a meterless M, but its probably less of an issue with the M7 in AE mode.

fyi this lens does have some barrel distortion but this only matters if u r an architectural photographer and wet print. I scan then print and so I can make corrections before printing, as I do w all my lenses (hello Nikon 24-120g on my F6!).

Yeah the lack of in between click stops is unusual and bit of a drag as the throw between click stops is short. But u can still place the aperture setting between the stops with care which will give u 1/2 stops.

Another difference from the 50mm f/1.1 is that the aperture on the 35mm does indeed have clicked full stops.

I went three times through your series and see no distortions. Was it corrected?

I corrected the distortion in the pic with the different military branch insignia in front of the USS Iowa, and the selfie. I used the slider in LightRoom. Those two are where I noticed it.

Of note I do this with pretty much any lens that I use if I feel it needs it. If you are making darkroom/wet prints of architectural type images that do not involve Frank Gehry’s designs then it may be an issue. If u take any other types of pics and/or scan/digitize ur images then it is not an issue.

Interestingly the lens is 6bit coded so I should put it on my M240 and see if the profile it picks up eliminates distortion.

I bought it used in the US private party. But its available on ebay, Amazon and 35mmc.com
35mmc is a great site so I would support that.

Will be great to see it on M240! Maybe it will be corrected, at least partially.

To me lens distortion correction in PP is something which comes with the crop. But I'm so scrooge, I do not crop my precious exposures. 😀

You can get them in the states off amazon, ebay, etc.

Related: I'd probably just buy one new; they're $280 on amazon with Prime shipping. Used they go for about $240. For me $40 is worth the quicker shipping, amazon support, and having a completely brand new lens.

Mine did take a little adjusting, but it's super easy and takes a couple minutes.
