7Artisans 50 1.1 no no for M5?

A heads up, the back element of the 7Artisans 50 1.1 sticks out a long way so I wouldnt use it on the M5 as it may damage the metering stalk.

I hadn't even thought of that until another reader pointed it out to me. Some of the sellers of this lens have now removed the M5 as a camera it can be used on.

Will find my calipers to measure this exactly, but from my normal use, there has been no issue.

I would love for you to prove me wrong. Please do. The Manufacturer has removed the M5 as a camera from their list that the lens can be used on.

So the rear element of the lens sticks out about 15mm from the base at infinity. The metering arm's little hand sticks out about 18mm from the base of the lens while extended.

That gives about 3mm of wiggle room. That being said, the lens has worked fine for me and my M5. However, that is much too small of a space to give a blanket statement for all users and I would not recommend using it as well.

If the camera was serviced in a different way, is slightly bent in any directly (of course, mine could be the one that is bent after all!) it could be catastrophic.

I know not the answer anyone was looking for on this one. Does anyone have any experience with this camera/lens combo?

I just had a second look at mine, looking through the lens wide open. If i cock the shutter while at infinity the metering arm fails to pop up - a very gentle adjustment of the lens allows it to pop up normally. So there goes my "wiggle room" though this is only at absolute infinity. Though, at infinity - the metering arms reverts down as normal when the shutter is fired.

Examining it again, it doesn't seem like there is any damage, or issue other than a small annoyance - the lip of the back element only nudges on the little hand of the metering arm, and does not disturb anything else.

Again, I wouldn't recommend to anyone else even though it seems to be working alright on mine. It's a pretty big risk for not wanting a future project.

I’ve used it on my M5 for almost 20 rolls and have noticed the meter not working only every so often. I originally thought it a flat battery but now it makes more sense.

It also does not work on the new CL unless u only focus between .7 and 2 meters. It will not focus past that as the lens extends and comes into contact with something inside the camera mount.

The lens may damage the original CL as it has the dropdown meter stalk like the M5.

Wow. Was just about to pull the trigger on the lens...and that would have been a problem since the only M-mount camera I have at the moment is the M5. Thanks for the heads up.

I think I’ve been able to modify my lens to fit the M5 without the metering stalk hitting the lens at infinity. I unscrewed the back lens elements group, the three elements inside just come out, and I sanded the part that held the group together to make it a little thinner. I think I removed around 0.8 mm. I put everything back together and painted the bare metal with a black paint marker. When focused at infinity the meter stalk doesn’t seem to touch back lens group.

I just realised one disadvantage for this modification, if you place the lens mount side down the back lens element is not protected anymore and will touch the surface you’re placing it on. Not a problem if I leave it stuck to my m5 though!

Wondering if the past few years have shed anymore light on this issue. Was doing some research on this lens for my M5 but it's not clear if it'll work!
