aka rendering test using a mirror and some pasty dood. At 1.1 it has a dreamy quality that Leica charges $7000 for in their new Thambar. Except the 7Artisans is $350.
By f2 it is sharp and modern and boring...

This is my favourite Leica lens, so much so I now have two of them - silver and black. And I have a sack full of real Leica (and Zeiss and Voigtlander) lenses. What I did notice is the black one's 6 bit coding is picked up by my M as a 50 1 Noctilux automatically, while the silver one isn't. I need to select that one manually. With it set, it eliminates magenta corners.

Thanks for the images.

When I previously analyzed 7Artisans 50 1.1 images shot at 1.1, I decided that the image quality was not to my liking.

When I previously compared 7Artisans 50 1.1 images shot a f/2 to Voigtländer 50mm f/1.5 images shot at f/2, I concluded that I preferred the Voigtländer images.

The 7Artisans 50 1.1 may indeed be a good substitute for the Thambar but I was looking for a good substitute for the Noctilux.

Your images confirmed my previous conclusions.

Each lens has its intended use. I view this lens as a special applications lens that I will use once in a while. My CV 50/1.1 is a general purpose lens, which is amazing for its size and cost. The CV 50/1.5 is also a wonderful lens with a fast max aperture.

I can't see what is wrong with this lens to call it this way. Looks like on digital it is better than my old $150 Jupiter-3. Or new $500 Jupiter-3.
I just still want Leca as the only 50 M lens. And 35 and 28... But I need just one of each 🙂

No problem! Posting actual 'portrait' shots (albeit selfies) I feel gives a real idea of how the lens performs. People can then see whether they like it or not.
An interesting comparison would have been to take the same shots with my Nokton 1.1 but the problem with that lens (and my Sonnar 1.5) is the minimum focusing distance is quite a bit further back so (using a Leica) I would not be able to get that same tight composition.
Another advantage to the 7Artisans.
