Some more Details on the 7Artisans 50/1.1

Thanks for the review. I was tempted initially just because of the price, but seeing this review and having Zuiko and Nikkor (both 1.2) I think I will pass...

"Dear Sir/Madam:
Our apologize for the inconvenience 🙁
Today we were informed by our express company, lots of our packages were hold by the custom for security check for days.
The packages will be detained by custom for a long time and no know when will be released.
Also, the express company told that our package will be forced to return to us due to some custom reason.
We feel so sad, we are not able to deliver this product to you timely.
In order no occupying your money, should we know if we can full refund you.
After the pakcage return us, we will inform you, if you still have interest on it, then purchase it again, ok?
Please let me know if we can fully refund you now?
Sorry again for the inconvenience
."

Now, the question is if it really is the local customs or if they are a little surprised by the high demand... I wouldn't be surprised if the price of the next batch will be considerably higher.

I cancelled the order and demanded refund. Plus, I have just ordered another one from a very reliable seller in Vienna: Mint & Rare

Lucky that he had it in the offer. Had I known, I would have ordered there directly.

This is bad!
I hope that my lens does not get the same customs treatment. We will know soon.
What was the seller's name and how much did you pay for the lens?

I have bought it from "emgreat" on Amazon.de
Price was €399,-

I have already seen that some of the ebay sellers have raised their prices by $100. The one I had saved had changed their prices from $369 to $469. This could be a ploy to attempt to cancel sales and re-sell at a higher price level.

I was wondering if this would happen. Seemed like enough people were excited about it and jumped at the chance. Hopefully prices stabilize.

I can believe there is a customs issue - it's their own fault ; my lens was misclassified and undervalued on the declaration.

There may also be a delay awaiting next production batch with the machined to fit the M4 parts.

It was a bit cheeky providing 6-bit coding on the lens ; perhaps Leica has obtained an export injunction.

Been studying the images at ƒ/1.1 here and elsewhere and they just aren't 'all that'. If it's fun at wide-aperture you seek, I'd sooner spring a few more ¥ and go for the MS 1,1/50 or CV 1,1/50. And if EVF were the sole means for focusing? Hands-down, the Nikon 50/1.2, although larger, is superior in every imaginable way and about the same price point as the now-$469 7-Fartisans SIC (stuck in customs).

I have the Nikkor 50 1.2 (actually 3 of them - AIS, non AI and 55 1.2 non AI). And disagree. Hands down the Minolta 58 1.2 takes it if you are only using EVF.

Your Nikon 50/2 does not fit my M8 or M9. The 50/1.1 7artisans lens is made new for the M cameras to RF. It would take lots of money to craft a custom M mount Nikon 50/1.2 unless there exists a version in M mount?

This is for Keith 🙂 Playing with my (focusable) Zuiko adapter 2 years ago ....

He means using an adapter and mounting it on an M240 which has the EVF. Then it does not need rf coupling. I find the EVF on the M240 very useful to not only adapt lenses but also to check rf calibration.

This was $100 more expensive than what I paid.

Yeah, but you are in the US and I am in Germany. Here, all Asian lenses are much more expensive.

Yes, that's what I thought as well. And that is the reason why I do not want to deal with that vendor again.

I do own a Nikkor 1.2/55 and really love it on my Nikon Df. But I cannot use it on my M8 and on my A7II it's a bit too big for my taste (due to the necessary SLR adapter).
Thus the 7artisans seems to be a nice complement for my collection.

I can (and surely will) compare the Nikkor and the 7artisans using my Sony A7II - and report here if you're interested. It will be on my blog as well.

I've never used the Minolta though it looks a bit big. Heard that it shares optical design similarities to the NOCT Nikkor. What is it like?
