My Pentax 6x7 lens has 9 blades. It has to behave like the Planar. Conversely, two of my totally manual view camera lenses have 5 blades. Go figure.
Thanks for tip on the notches. Now I will now which way is up when scanning. Clever. Square negatives need a reference for orientation.

Do you mean pentagonal highlights or pentagonal flare spots.
Flare spots are not better if they are circular.
Use the lens at full bore and aperture blades won't matter at all.
It's not fair to expect a multi-blade slr lens, it has to close down automatically pretty quick so ...

In prowling about the INTERNET, looking at samples from the 80mm CFE, I have seen enough to make me take it all back. Like the DR Summicron, there are situations that the lens doesn't like and I should be aware of those. Otherwise, the lens is a clear winner.
So. Hasty judgment led to an inaccurate declaration. I take it all back.
