800 iso in Yashica 35CC

Hi,

The only negative thing I can think of when using te Yashica Electro 35cc is that the filmspeed ranges only to 500 iso. Is there a way around this? I would like to use it with 800 iso film or possibly sometimes 1600.

Ofcourse usually 400 will be more than enough, but sometimes 800 would be nice. Not just for the available light, but also to use some beautiful films like the Kodak 800 iso colourfilm. Ofcouse I can put the camera on 500 and slightly overexpose this film which would not be a problem.

I was thinking of adjusting ('re-calibrating') the lightmeter by one stop, so that all the filmspeeds will double (100 becomes 200, 200 becomes 400, 400 becomes 800)
But I have no idea if that is possible.

ISO 800 film will work reasonably well, even rated at ISO 500 due the extreme latitude. It is not a serious issue.

True, but sometimes 800 would be nice, just for the speed.

Has anyone answered this?

Is such a recalibration possible? I have a CC. It's my favorite camera, truly a "poor man's Leica" (sorry). Love the 35mm focal length. It does surprisingly well in low-light with 400 speed film. However, the biggest advantage I see with recalibrating the film-speed selector for higher-speed film capabilites is that you can shoot at perhaps f4 instead of wide-open in darker situations and get better sharpness and increased dept of field.

I would gladly pay for such a recalibration of this camera if it's possible. Man would a sweet camera be made all the more sweet if this is possible. 1600 or 3200 iso capabilites and this camera goes from a "near-perfect" to perfect street-shooter.

the top shutter speed is only 250 so unless you are shooting in really low light, 800 may be too fast.

True, todd. Hadn't thought of that. Prolly why this camera was capped at 500 iso. Oh well, still a camera I reach for quite often. Thanks for the insight.
