I am starting to look for a 85-90mm LTM lens for my Zorkis/FEDs. I own a Jupiter-9 but it has been screwed with(not by me) and doesn't focus correctly. I don't have the time, skills, or patience to fix it so I'm looking to replace it.
I do like the size/speed/looks of this lens and would like to find something similar. I'm hesitant to simply get another one that I might have to also replace.
Most Leica/Leitz lenses are out of my budget--though the 90/f4 may be the exception but that lens seems to have its own problems...
I would appreciate any opinions, suggestions, rants, etc you folks would be willing to share.
Thanks, Rob
PS: the focus "tab" at the back of the lens needs to be full circle.

Totally modern, the CV 90 gets only high recommendations. I just bought one and have not developed anything shot with it, but it is very well made and compact if you remove the hood.

The elmar 90/4 is a good performer, and is light and inexpensive, usually going for around $80-90. I have no personal experience with the Canon and Nikkor 85mm's, but I am sure others will chime in.

What particular problems with the elmar. I have been very happy with mine. Here is a sample from my gallery, shot handheld at F4:

Ray, Beautiful shot! As mentioned her at RFF and else where--these are subject to haze/fungus--admittedly I have no personal experience but I will have to mail/internet order whichever lens I decide on and I want to minimize any potential problems. I'm not eliminating the elmar from consideration by any means.
Rover, the Voigtlander is above my budget and I cant tell about the focus collar/tab.
Thanks, Rob

Rob,

Keh has one in BGN condition now for $119. A bit higher than you'd pay on Ebay, but with peace of mind 🙂

The aforementioned Canon RF & LTM Nikkors are very good, although the Nikkors & all-black (late model) Canons are pretty expensive, i.e., almost as much or more than the Leitz stuff (which is only appropriate since they are comparable, & many are better, than the Leitz product). The best prices are probably on the chrome-finished Canons. For some modern, you might want to look @ some the Cosina Voigtlander TM telephotos. E.g., I have the 75/2.5 Color Heliar & it's a nice little lens (operative word being "little").
