85 a/b/c filters for b&w?

anyone ever try one of these for b&w shooting.
i know they are for colour film but they look kinda orange, just wondering what the effect might be.

and yes, i will try it out myself sooner or later, but if someone else has already done it...

Joe here's a couple shots using an 81C filter, a pale salmon colored one used as a "warming filter" for slides. Having just gotten the lens, I didn't have a UV filter to protect the front element so I used the 81C for that. Should have a rather faint effect on the tonality. Construction signs were yellow, gas pumps red. 90mm f/2.8 Sonnar, Ilford XP2.

If you still have your G2 digicam, put it into b&w mode, and try out the filters. Fastest way to check all the different scenarios.
 
Good idea! And a fine use for a digicam too! 😀

Hmm... the sensor's spectral response should be similar enough to that of Joe's choice of film to give at least a rough idea of the effect.
