I've been offered a first generation 90mm Elmarit-M that recently (we're talking days) underwent a CLA at Sherry Krauter's place. I've looked at the Leica M price guide, and it quotes $375 for the lens. This sounds a bit steep to me, does anyone who knows/use this lens have any idea if it's "worth it". And is it at all a usable lens? The owner hasn't given me a price yet, but I want to be prepared for negotiations 🙂

Going on 3 years ago I paid about that much for my 90mm Elmarit. It was fresh from Sherry and came with a Leitz UV filter. I picked up the correct hood and cap for $30 on ebay. Altogether, less than $400.

Is it worth it? I like mine. I don't use it enough. That's my fault not the lenses fault. I also like the "look" of older lenses for 35mm and 4x5.

YMMV.

Mine was about $500 w/ hood and an unnamed CLA, so I say your offer is more than fair. The Elmarit 90 v1 is a classy lens, but a bit heavier than I like for walkabout: I usually reach for an Elmar.
