Hi everybody

There's the very informative show your 90mm Summicron shots sticky, but there's no thread (I think, feel free to correct me; I've searched but only find comparison threads) for the 90mm Elmarit-M.

I love this lens, sharp and compact. Perhaps others feel the same and want to show some pix?

If not, that's ok too of course.

Cheers
Philip

Hi Hans,
Thanks for responding. Sure thing, I think so. They're kind of related, no? I considered that one before getting the Elmarit-M.

The look of my photos using the tele Elmarit-M convinced me to commit to Leica.

I think sharpness is the wrong word or idea; for me it is the contrast and edge definition. On color photos, the look is like molten metal or quicksilver. I've posted this before; it's from my "Glory of Velvia" gallery at http://www.photokinesis.info/ They are pretty basic jpeg scans from NCPS where I get my Velvia developed. (That said, high-quality drum scans result in a huge improvement, especially when lighting or exposure was not optimum).

Tom I saw the "Boat and Buoy in San Diego harbor" photo on your site. Both the water and the reflections on the side of the boat have the look you're describing. Very nice!

Elmarit-M 90f2.8 on a M3. This was at the Tokyo fishmarket at 5 am (I was jetlagged enough to get up that early). This was my first time in Tokyo/Japan 1995.

Hej Tom :)
Nice photo. Neopan 1600 is a great film. How did you scan this picture?

Leica MP with Elmarit-M 90mm f2.8

Nice shots Dan :D What film did you use with the MP? I like the contrast and the grain.

I ditched the CV 75/2.5 earlier this week to get something more suitable for my M3, and yesterday I found a 90/2.8 non-tele in Germany for a fair price.

I hope to get it early next week, and that the rangefinder collimation is good! At one meter f2.8, the DoF should be 2 cm or so..

These are some really bad lab scans that I came across. I need to find the original negs to re-scan with my Nikon V ED.

A good friend had let me borrow his Elmarit-M when I was deciding on whether or not to sell my OM 85/2. It took me a few years to finally sell the OM, and when I was looking for a good Elmarit another friend let me borrow the 90/2 APO. The APO is crazy good, but definitely out of my price range. I don't mind the extra weight of the f2 as much as I thought I would. Now I am curious to read some comparisons between an Elmarit-M and a v3 90/2. They both seem to be in the same price range. Any thoughts?

I haven't used the pre-APO Summicron but considered it and the APO before getting the Elmarit-M. So other people can definitely advise you better than I can. But from my research I understood the Elmarit-M was only improved on by the APO Summicron. Two threads that helped me were this one, esp. post no. 6 which I found instructive, and this one.

Andy Piper also compared various Mandler lenses in this thread over at the Leica Forum, including that Summicron.

Perhaps you've already seen them but there are links in the Leica Forum Wiki on the pages for the pre-APO Summicron and the Elmarit-M.

Thank you for all of the links! That is some good reading. I may go for the v3 90/2 for the extra stop. If I ever hit it big, then I can upgrade to the APO! ;)

I've stopped worrying about one extra stop. I WOULD like a 50 Summilux for the shallow depth-of-field, but the ratings on Leica lenses seem to be consistently higher on the next slowest lens.

When it comes to the 90mm length, f/2.8 gives you a nice, shallow DOF.

The film used was LEGACYPRO 400 35X36 B&W NEG FILM that I had purchased from Freestyle in August when they had a sale on film that had a short expiration date.
