Leica has come out with new, lower cost lenses. I am interested in the 90mm f2.5. Does any of you have any experience with this lens? If so, what are your impressions?

Reading from the German Leica forum, Sean Reid and Guy Mancuso are testing the 4 new Summarit lenses. There's a report and sample pictures from the 75/2.5 over there. The lens looks pretty good actually.

I used a pre asph 90/2.0 for a while, you can often find them for under 700 dollars.

Or a nice 90/2.8 Elmarit for under $400.
Or a nice 75/2.5 Color Heliar for under $250.
The new lenses will have to be stunningly superbly awesomely fantabulous to justify the price difference of those two lenses.

I have one, and it's very nice indeed. The day before it arrived (Thursday), I had been tempted by a 90/2.8 Canadian lens, because of its wonderful compactess, for 220 euros ($300) in a camera shop window; but I have to say that if finances permit, I'd rather have the faster lens, brand new.
They have saved money by reducing the aperture; omitting the built-in lens hood (it's an accessory, using the same port of 'positive stop' external thread as the 16-18-21); supplying a suedette pouch instead of a leather case; and gambling on higher demand -- which, given the success of the M8, seems likely. The new Summarits are bar-coded for the M8 and as Puts says, you have to wonder how long the f/2.8 designs can survive alongside these.
I also have the 35 and 50 -- the latter is especially sweet-handling -- but not the 75. I've shot very little with any of them yet. When I do, I'll post a free review on my web-site.

Im actually looking at a 75 lux at the moment for portraits, but could still save a fair bit of cash with the Sumarit option.

Well my Summarit 2,5/75mm should arrive within two weeks. The production in Solms seems to be in time schedule.

with the new SPUR Technospeed (Rollei ATP developer) and the latest version of the Moersch UGI (high speed iso 32 ) developer for this TP film ( >800ln/mm).

I can not imagine its as good as the Summicorn either as it does not have the aspherical components. Even so, I am very curious as the price difference is 'an extra lens'!
