90mm f4 Elmar, cleaning etc thread

Hi,

There was a helpful thread about this sometime back, the OP described getting into his old black 90mm Elmar and giving it the once over.

I can't find the thread...can you?

I think at your request I was supposed to share my once-over of a RD 50mm f/3.5 Elmar.
But in the fight to get into it, I forgot to take enough pictures. I have some, but not proper step-by-step ones.

The 50mm Elmar is sorted thanks, the 90mm stares at me in a misty sort of way and I haven't got the courage to have a go at the Super Nettel! Thanks for the link VictorM

Mr Flibble, I see you've picked up a magazine 16mm. Is this a GSAP camera (Gun Sight Aiming Point)? ie big black metal magazines of 16mm? Have a box of those and civilian cameras somewhere too! See below:

No it's not the B&H or a Fairchild GSAP camera but the Kodak handheld cine camera. They use the same 16mm magazines (AN-A-6) I believe.

The top plate just happens to be marked "US Navy". I'd much rather had a "Signal Corps PH-431" or "USAAF" marked one, but can't justify the 10x higher cost.

No proof of provenance, but the seller claims it came from a former fighter pilot.

Ah yes, I know these but no longer have a Kodak version. From what I remember a curious lens mount and a nice viewfinder for different focal lengths.

I collect movie cameras, most 8mm and some 16mm, have still got plenty of 16mm mags some still sealed with unexposed Kodachrome...

Cool. Movie cameras aren't really my expertize. But I have two military B&H cameras. A 1950s Filmo and a 1940s Eyemo.

I also bought 3 "government property" marked magazines for this Kodak. They will need to be cleaned and refurbished, but they were cheap. Perfect for display props.

I was once taught how to refill those magazines but never bothered to try it! I decided life was too short and threading a Bolex was much easier...

I've found some online documentation with ascii-character schematics on how to reload those things. I think I'll save myself the trouble as well 😉
