When I focus with my 90mm Sonnar it makes a noise and I can feel a bit of a resistance/rubbing-type vibration. It only happens when I move the body to a vertical position. This has no apparent effect on the resulting images.
However, I'm wondering if anyone has ever experienced this issue before and whether I ought to be seriously concerned. Also, if someone could point me in the right direction of whether I should get it fixed, where, and approximately how much it might cost.
Obviously I'm new to the Contax G2 but I LOVE it so far. My main concern is that this extra resistance might adversely affect the camera body.

I believe it is not uncommon. A friend of mine has the same issue with his G2 and S 90. He took it to a Contax repair guy we know and he kinda indicated - ya... He said not to worry too much. I'm sure there are good Contax repair shops around, I just don't know of and independent ones.
It'd be great if there was a specialist like John Hermanson is for Olympus OM.
I'd send an email to TOCAD in NJ. They are the official repair for Kyocera/Contax.
I sent sent my RTS III there. It's on it's way to Japan for repair/service. They repair some cameras there, and some go to Kyocera in Japan. The price was reasonable too - at least I think, I'm waiting for the exact estimate to come.
Worth an email to ask.

+1 with my G1 150°
it scares me a little bit and I'm wondering if are there any solutions to this... it seems focusing the sonnar is heavier for the AF motor, which produces that strange noise...
