a 28mm for the R-D1; how much max price for canon28 ltm?

I'm thinking about a 28mm to pair my R-D1, and saw a 28mm for sale locally.
the question is... it's a LTM Canon 28mm f/2.8 and the price seems high.
I'm tempted by its compactness, but the Ultron f/2 might be as well a better option (+ one stop and similar contrast).

What bothers me really is the price...How much would be a maximum reasonable price to pay for this lens (which seems in a good state) ?

I couldn't find any history in the bay for this very item, therefore : from you guys, any advice welcome, thanks to all in advance!

The f/2.8 version is relatively uncommon, and can fetch over $400 in clean condition (i.e., clean glass and not needing a focus or aperture overhaul). But it's certainly possible to wait and get one off of eBay for ~$300 -- I've seen a couple sell in that range recently.

What is your local shop asking?

Probably a bit outdated, but add $50-100 to each and you should be in the ballpark... I believe.

I agree with a previous poster that $400 is not uncommon price for the Canon 28/2.8, although they occasionally will sell on eBay for less.

I paid $320 for a near mint specimen in Januari. Would've paid $400 to get one, cause I just love the little thing, but that's definately the upper end.

This is roughly the price I saw it (converted from £ to $), approx. $370.

I own a lot of 28s, and nothing comes close to this lens. An added bonus is it's size, and flare resistance (versions II and III) even when shooting into the sun.

There are a few good 28mm lenses in that general price range that are a good match for the R-D1. I have for my R-D1:

Canon 28/2.8 -- Very compact and a pleasure to use. My copy isn't particularly sharp wide open, but there's a lot of sample variation in old lenses like this. Very nice contrast in bright light.

Canon 28/3.5 -- I have the black/chrome version, which is bit bigger than the f/2.8, and a bit sharper (mine, anyway). Also a really nice lens. The chrome version is absolutely tiny.

Minolta M-Rokkor 28/2.8 -- Fantastic lens, great handling, sharp, modern contrast but not painfully so. The smallest 28/2.8 Leica mount I know of, apart from the Canon. This lens often has coating issues, which often is just cosmetic, but sometimes is a functional problem. I had to have mine cleaned, which was expensive because the lens is hard to disassemble.

CV 28/3.5 Skopar -- Really wonderful lens. Small, well built, very sharp, nice contrast. Shows some light fall-off in the corners on the R-D1, but I don't mind it.

To add to Kermaier´s list. The CV Ultron 28/f1.9. Lovely lens, if a bit big. Sharp, medium contrast (at least according to my taste). And a 1.9 aperture does help sometimes. Quite difficult to get anything completely OoF on a 28, but a f1.9 you can in fact get nice bokeh.
