This morning I picked up my RF bag and the strap unclipped from one end. As a result I dropped my Ikon, 35/2 Biogon and 50 Sonnar, together with a 15mm Voigt and 90/4 Rokkor:bang: The Ikon's RF is now misaligned and it has a small mark on one edge. I am really not very pleased, and will be sending the body and the two Zeiss lenses back to Oberkochen for repair/function tests.

Just wanted a shoulder to cry on really.

Mike

That really sucks
Id be real pissed if I dump my Ikon on the ground

I once had my M8 on a strap on my shoulder and it mysteriously came undone and fell to the ground from waist high. Luckily it was on grass and nothing happened.

I dropped my M7 on the subway. I was getting up and the strap slipped from my shoulder behind me. So when I got up it just fell. Thud. Still works fine.

I dropped a 35mm Summicron from waist high while changing lenses in Budapest. It fell onto a tile floor and bent the rear mount and focusing tab. I manage to shave the dent down and use the lens for a short while. Two weeks later it nearly fell apart. It is currently at DAG getting repaired.

I had the 40mm nokton in a bag with all my film while I was bicycling across the country and somehow the front filter came off. And the front element of the lens got scratched to hell. Amazingly despite the numerous and obvious scratches that look as if a brillo pad were taken to it. The thing still works fine and is sharp as ever.

I had an R3a that I kept in the passenger seat of my car. And I made a sudden stop at a red light and the thing flew from the seat to the floor of the car and right into my auto theft lock. There was a red scratch on my R3a and an area where the paint chipped. From that day on the vertical alignment of the R3a was off.

I was changing SD cards in my M8 on a table and had it lifted about a foot above the table. My grip slipped and tried to catch the thing but the M8 just ended up slamming in the table as if I were trying to hammer in a nail with it. The M8 still works fine and is currently in NJ getting an upgrade. And the focusing alignment is being fixed. But that was off from the day I bought it.

M7 and M8 both have "brassing" and numerous surface scratches. The M7 has tiny specs of dust in the viewfinder. Bottom line is, these things happen. It sucks to hell and the worse part is there is no one to blame but ourselves. But it happens.

The important question is, what bag did you have?

I hate it when things like that happen and I feel your pain. I hope you get your rig fixed up soon.
When packing for my trip to Hawaii, I had my freshly CLAd Agfa Super Isolette (favorite out of ALL my cameras) fly to the floor due the bag being unzipped. Put a big ol' dent in the maple flooring. Didn't swear out loud like that for a along time. The shutter advance/counter needs to be fixed but the camera and rangefinder is fine. Took some great pictures on the that vacation and haven't had to repair the camera since. That was two years ago.

Pablito, for years, I have used both items and they never failed. Accidents happen.

BTW, Mike, I am sorry for your bad beginning of the week. It really sucks... but once the camera gets fixed the whole thing will land in the bag of really bad memories.

It happens to all of us...
Had my xpan on a shoulder strap with a clip when picking it up from a table the thing came undone and it fell to the floor... the rf was misaligned and it went to NJ for repairs. Got a full CLA which probably needed to be done anyway.

Here's my bad start to the week ( last week! ) - in stead of spending a pleasant Monday morning shooting the M2, I suffered my first ever heart attack, and spent the week on a cardiac ward!. If not for the swift reaction of my wife ( who is a nurse ), and some exellent paramedics - I would be in the big darkroom ( or lightroom 😀 ) in the sky now!. Fortunately If I change the habits of a lifetime, and take care!-I should soon be back to bugging people on the streets with my R/F's again!....but I'm told that my pipes, and the nice fat cuban cigars that I occasionaly enjoy will have to go!.....bummer! 🙁,......but at least I'm still around!🙂
Dave.

Dang....

I once dropped my Electro and thought I was going to get sick...

And that's only a $20 camera...🙁

I'll now multiply my pain by about 100...

Congratulations on your good luck. Accidents happen but there are ways of lessening the chances. I would not wish a dropped camera on anybody and I'm sorry for what happened to Mike. But if you don't use quick release doo-dads and clips and clasps then they can't fail. And they can't get caught in car doors, elevator doors, machinery, etc. Keep it as simple as possible is my advice. Avoid accessories, they are created to make money for other people and trip you up (Tom A's are the exeption!). OK, I feel pretty self-righteous today. And don't go having heart attacks! (glad you're good, Dave)

Dave, sorry to hear that and gald you're still around. Kick the habits and enjoy life. Brings what's really important into focus - never mind a the rf alignment.

Thanks to the rest of you for your sympathy - though dave needs it more - and for information only, the Bag is a Domke F5-XA - the little one - and I must have caught the clip with the back of my hand as I picked it up. They will be taped up before I use it again.
