Tonight, after haggling for a day or two on Craigslist, I went to Hollywood to pick up a T3 for cheap. I bought it from a really nice young guy, who is still in school but has worked on major urban USA department store shoots, and knows Terry Richardson. He prefers his Yashica T4. "It is grittier", he said.
As I was walking to my car, a beautiful ballerina was doing pirouettes on a side street with a female photographer shooting her. She was lovely, skinny in silver stockings and black tutu, laughing in embarrassment at the spectacle she was creating. I had no camera. A moment missed.
Returning home, I parked my car, and walking back to my apartment I found lying on the sidewalk a mounted and framed photograph, behind glass, of a soaring American eagle. It is called "Excellence", followed by a tacky quote.
I downloaded the T3 manual, adjusted the custom settings to best avoid shutter lag (it's still there) and flash auto on, and now will dispel the notion that it is as big as a pack of cigarettes. No big deal, close enough, and I hope to commit to carrying it all the time, and possibly capture a moment or two of interest before they are all gone.
The kid has his negatives scanned and cd'd at Walgreens, and they look great. I may follow suit. My new Nikon scanner sits silent, I am using my Gralab timer to cook Ramen, and I stood up the girl who had the Paterson tanks for sale.
