A big thank you to Mr Roger Hicks

Late but at least there... I'll add my heartfelt thanks too!

BTW, I nearly fell off my chair when I saw your name here, Roger. I had read your RF book (actually devoured in two days), and later purchased B&W Photography (which went over my head, but I'll keep for the day I do darkroom). Good to hear there's another book out! :)

BTW, my wife's name is also Frances... but she's not that into photography.

Dear Francisco,

It sounds a bit pose-y to keep saying 'thank you' to people but I really do appreciate it. There's not much money in what we do and letters like yours (and everyone else's) do help to make it all more worthwhile.

Well, my Frances took up photography because she got tired of waiting for me to take pictures. Her first published photo was the cover of Motorcycle Touring in Europe (it's on the web-site).

Cheers,

Roger (www.rogerandfrances.com)

Roger's column is the page I turn to FIRST every week in AP, then I read it backwards, finishing at the front page.

Sometimes I agree, sometimes not - usually makes me think and always entertaining. Great stuff!

P.S. I'm a SysAdmin too!

Dear Silva Lining,

What, a SysAdmin and I haven't offended you properly yet... I'll have to try harder! You must be one of the ones who has 'got a life'.

I don't think anyone's cancelled their subscription yet over my column but we live in hope.

Cheers,

Roger

Yes, Roger's column is the first bit I read as well, closely followed by the letters to see if there are any "darts of vitriol" aimed at our hero's previous efforts. Tee Hee!! :D

They're all good lenses, eh! I shall have to change the 200mm AI at some point, as the focusing is such a chore on it (I hear the AIS version is nicer in that regard). Lovely sharp lens though.

I don't have an opportunity to read AP here, but I and some other local photographers I know have found Roger's articles in Russian Photomagazin insightful and very helpful with mastering practical issues of photography.

So I concur, it is a pleasure to see you over here Roger.

Dear Eugene,

So some people actually do read it! I never see a copy -- the postal services always lose it before it gets to me...

Thanks for the kind words, and as I said on another thread, Bonne Courage! This is an untranslatable French expression meaning literally 'good courage' but better translated as 'Good luck. You'll need it. And rather you doing it than me...'

Cheers,

Roger

Roger, PM me if you'd like to have a copy.

Photomagazin has the reputation of being the most professional among the photography rags printed in this part of the world, and I have at least a dozen issues (probably more) featuring your articles.

The most useful to me were the ones on monochrome film qualities, film development and exposure for print film and transparencies. I guess other people have their own priorities, but your articles are great pieces overall.
