A bokeh comparison test I did with the 135mm f2.8 STF and the Leica 90mm APO

I recently acquired a 135mm f2.8 Smooth Transitional Focus lens and wanted to see how good the acclaimed "bokeh machine" really is. The STF is mounted on an A7 with the LA-EA3 adapter. To adjust for FOV I shot the 90APO on a NEX-7 and used f2 instead of f2.8. Pictures were adjusted in photoshop for netural WB and the removal of compression artifacts.

I tested for both foreground and background bokeh, and can confirm that contrary to what I've read elsewhere, there is essentially no difference between them for the STF.

The change in the field of view is purely because of breathing. I am actually a bit surprised at how much the STF's image changes with the focal point...The APO cron's FOV is however consistent through 1m - infinity.
