Today I was at a coffee shop with my M7 and CV 35/1.2. Sitting outside, lots of people milling about. A guy comes up to me and asks me a few questions. he notices my rig. He asks me what are those gold edges on the focus and aperture rings on my lens (he doesn't use those exact words but this is what he meant). I said it was brassing. He said it looked really cool and why didn't I get it done on my camera (obviously of a later circa).
Get'er done:D:D

You can buy Blue Jeans stonewashed....so when is it possible to buy a camera photographer-brassed?
.......For a moment I thought the guy asked about your wedding ring

akiva, if you lend me your M7, I will gladly give it the desired "gold edges." I'll need it for about three years. No charge. I love the title of your thread.

So I guess your M7 is black paint. My M6 is black chrome, and it's "silvering" on the edges, not brassing. :-(

Fender Custom Shop do 'distressed' Stratocasters and Telecasters that give you that well worn look. The difference is that they sound awesome too. it's not just a 'look thing' in their case

In 1981 I had the strangest visitor, a French chap brandishing a brand new Nikon reflex. He picked up a rat-tail file that was lying around and proceeded to "brass" the edges of his camera. Was at it for two hours. Reminds me of the Pentax of "Spike" Milligan, whose black paint had all been removed to show the brass. Such devotion to equipment is not for ordinary mortals.

From what I gather the 'new' black paint finish applied to the MP, and the OP's a la carte M7, is designed to brass pretty quickly.

All you need to do is handle/fondle it a bit and wear a rugged hat.
