A Contax II.5 or a III with a lumpectomy...

Converting a III to a II isn't a hack. Actually Contax would upgrade II's to III's for a small fee. The serial numbers do not differentiate between a II or a III so the camera isn't devalued. Stu

Well, I heard back from Eddie &, as always, his quote is insanely cheap. I'm getting them both done for about 1/3 of what I expected - $30. I don't know how he can afford to do such good work for so little but I'm extreamly grateful that he does.

William

Not only is he inexpensive, the work is top notch. I've sent him two cameras in the past two months, and both came back quickly, and are flawless. They are basically "brand new" 40 year old cameras.

Who could complain about that! ( He's at 123camerarepair@gmail.com )

Maybe I can bet my Zeiss exposure meter alive again too !

I am pleased that there is no purist thinking here - and that I bought a parts Contax II from someone in this forum - I bet it would have been suddenly in demand !

Curiously , I like the compact meter of a Kiev 4 , so Mike Haley in Ukraine is making me a Kiev 3a with Kiev 4 top plate and meter , so it's somewhat a reversal of the III to II idea . All from parts I hasten to add !

I have a nice Contax III which needs a shutter operation with a collapsible Sonnar , ditto , plus a parts Contax II ... would i combine ? No , I like the 30s style of the III !

Controversially , the Contax II is going to be reborn with an early spares Kiev shutter . I am sure it will be a fine user too .
