A Day Spent with 2 New Lenses

All,

I've finished the lens repair, and it almost all went really well. I'm writing up the notes in my spare time, and I'll try to get pictures done this weekend (couldn't get my hands on digicam last weekend). When it's all done, I'll post a nice big thread in the repair forum with the details, and hopefully some sample pictures if I get my scanner to co-operate.

Some things I discovered:
- The non-"C" version of the Colinar doesn't have coating on the front element. The glass is soft, soft, soft. Don't ask how I know.
- The lens coating on the other elements is surprisingly hard - I had to scrub the crap out of that element to get the haze off, and no scratches.

I took some pictures with the lens before and after, and there's a huge difference after I cleaned the haze. Looks like it's all in working order, and it'll be a nice lens to have in the bag.

More to come.... I promise!

Very cool, looking forward to seeing some photos! I've gone and picked up a second Arco myself. Why? I dunno. It was 99 cents. I mean, nobody bid on it. It had haze, but it was coated. The one I bought first is not coated, but the glass is clean on that one. This new one, it's been kicking around a bit. The finish is worn, and the glass has been scrubbed - it may be 'coated' but it has some surface scratches. I cleaned the haze out - no problems there. Like you said, these come apart like a gem. I'll shoot A/B with them and see which one I like more.

I'm happy to hear you're pleased with yours!

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks
