with the introduction of the full frame sensor Nikon D3 DSLR, can a full frame sensor digital Nikon SP be that far behind?
crazier things have happened.
Nikon seems to be a a better bet than Canon for such a project.

Better bet than Canon - for shure as Canon had buried a (film) rangefinder camera project in prototype stadium in the late 90ies.
The problem for a FF in a digital Nikon SP is the shorter base flange length of rangefinder cameras and the often not backfocal design of the wide lenses - causing strong vignetting issues.
