My daughter saw my Leica M240 and 28 Summicron ASPH sitting on my nightstand. She picked it up and said "This is the kind of camera I want for Christmas". I hesitantly let her hold it for a few seconds, then decided it might be best if she puts it down. I said, "can you carefully put that back?" Here comes the funny part:
My wife says to her, "it's probably expensive - maybe $700"

Disclaimer:
I have done pretty well over the years with some great buys/sales/trades of camera gear. I have worked my way up to my current gear and have been able to put $ in the bank along the way. But, and this is a very big but....
I am not going to correct my wife on her assessed value of my gear.

Would you be willing to teach a class on how to do this for the rest of us...???
The wife part....not the kid part...our kids are grown up and pretty much leave the camera stuff alone...

Jay ,
I had the similar thing happen with my 3 year old ... almost 4 .... Woke up to him taking pictures of my wife and I sleeping .. MM in his hand . Calmly just told him he forgot to put the strap over his head .... on another occasion he brings the camera to me .."Here you go papa"
I become very aware of the tiled kitchen floor as he passes me the camera ....lol ...

I suggested the Leica a bit heavy , now he complains the Leica is too heavy and leaves it alone .... He now uses a canon s95 , knows to use the flash in low light and takes great snap shots ... amazing how fast kids learn .... I try to just act normal about things and not overreact ... overreact and your done ; ) The wife knows camera cost or should I say the dreaded trip to Leica so she is a bit more protective of the camera ..... anyway got a good laugh from your story

Same here. I was able to afford my M240 by trading in a Pelican 1600 case full of Nikon kit that I had judiciously acquired over 20+ years of photography and camera collecting.

If the wife thinks your M240 and 28 'cron costs $700, let sleeping dogs lie... 😉
