a gallery reminder

it is not the quantity in the gallery.

the only problem i, along with some other members have, is high upload numbers all at one time.

it is up to members to visit the gallery and view work if they choose, that's another whole different thing...

Joe I think equal. I know that is not problem of space, number of photos...

But if all the members of RFF can compromissed to post only the best photos that have, I think all won.

I update my gallery in the past, but when re-update Jorge all the aparience of the gallery, I missed the order. The gallerys in sections are more interesting to view...

Well, here’s a worthless comment from a guy who knows and agrees that the photos in his own gallery just flat suck. (Okay, sorry for the slang. I should use more proper English: “…just flat sucketh!”) And the reason I frequent this fine establishment is because, hey, I’m workin’ on it; working on improving the quality of my shots by talking to more experienced photographers and studying photographs that are of a far better quality than mine. Not too far down the road I hope to get comfortable enough with a couple of cameras and two or three lenses that I can actually put more attention on better content, better films and processes and Lord willing, a better quality end result. But for now, they suck.

I’ve never gotten the feeling from anyone here that RFF is a forum for only the Elite. On the contrary, in the few months I’ve been here, I can’t recall a single newbie who made his first post without getting hearty replies of “Welcome!” from several members. The overall temperament of RFF has been to be uplifting to any photog at any level.

From what I’m reading in this thread (and others), it seems apparent that the larger portion of folks replying here agrees that their use of the RFF Gallery is to share their “good shots,” even guys like me who know, for now, their good shots suck. And most seem to agree, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

But it also seems quite obvious to me that Joe here is not trying to squelch that at all, but rather to discourage the handful of “silent members,” shall we say, who are using RFF for a Free Online Snapshot Dump. And IMHO that’s not being “exclusive.” That’s being steadfast to the obvious objectives of RFF, to encourage ANYONE to become more knowledgeable of, more familiar with and improved in their use of the RF species -- and share the fruits of their progress.

So for that, Joe has both my blessing and my support. Joe, you seem to have quite a handle on how to go about resolving this quandary, so carry on and whatever I can adjust or do to help, count me in. I like this place and think I’ll just hang around awhile. I have no desire to run it or moderate it, I just want to learn to take photographs; maybe one day, photographs that don’t suck.

“Posting 30 photos at a time?” Give me a break, for cryin’ out loud!! I can process 5 rolls of film at once and don’t get thirteen frames that are in focus!

I get disheartened when this discussion switches from setting a daily limit to controlling and dictating quality, and it seems to do that really quick.

I think that most people upload what they think are good images. For that reason RFF needs to *suggest* a daily limit. People want their images seen and commented on. Blasting out the New Uploads is unacceptable.

Perhaps RFF should have an "image" that is uploaded by a moderator or two, on a daily or weekly basis. Something like what I've attached here. Just a suggestion, and definitely just an example. (It took me like 20 seconds to make. 🙂

The number per day/week whatever has been hashed before, and I'm now thinking it should be cut WAY back. That gives those of us who get a decent photo once in a blue moon to catch up. 🙂 No serious, some guys turn out a lot of incredible stuff, but if even they had to think - what am I gonna post this week - I think you'd see more views per picture, more comments (Because the pictures would be THEIR very best, and because they'd stay in view longer.)

But on the comments thing... I see a lot of nice pictures here and think hmmm nice, but really have nothing to add. But then I turn around and see my no views or comments and think... dang I didn't think my pictures were THAT bad. I hate to say anything for fear of sounding like "hey how come nobody looks at my gallery" but I think you're right about the views - once they dissapear off the radar they just get lost. It's rare that I go digging through somebody's gallery unless I'm looking for something in particular, like a film or developer or a lens etc... I'm not really sure how to "fix" it though.

I dont want that the reader associated in my post: Elite with ´good shots´, ´selective photos´ For me its difficult to say in other language that is not mine like the english, words that cant bad interpret itself about this subject.

But again:

I love this site. This little site in the big Internet. I like the cameras and the lens... But I esteem more the people. In this forum there are great persons. Persons that I couldnt find in my life without internet...

My desire was that all the photos were commented. But this is imposible. Then I would like that all the members that upload photos in the Gallery have some of their photos commented. Its discouraging see members without comments. Its not praise to praise; but a word, in concrete moment can help. I dont want elites, always I rebelled before them. The photography its the democratic art par excellence. What I would like that the rate of upload something diminished, for not loose this photos of other members that not upload his photos with as much assiduity .

Thanks. Sorry for the big text and my english.

Ray, this is a neat idea. Maybe if it is made up to fill a 4:3 aspect it will be read easily in the "Recent Photos" thumbnails.

Even cooler if it was automatically displayed by a server script in the thumbnails. Say every 36 hours. Yet, It wouldn't store in a member's gallery. I'm not sure if this can be done.

CVBLZ4, i gotta ask...what does the handle ( CVBLZ4) stand for?
Yeah, well that's pretty much top secret and very complicated, being the deep thinker that I am, but since it's just us girls here... I stumbled on RFF looking for info on this wierd camera I'd just bought called a Zorki 4. Decided I needed to ask a question on the forum, "...so I guess I'll have to join or register or something to do that."

So sitting on the desk in front of me was my Cosina Voigtlander Bessa L and my Zorki 4. As you can see, I really gave my sign-in name a lot of thought. Good thing there wasn't a half-eaten moldy cheeseburger laying there.

Anyway, didn't realize I'd be hanging around so long and be stuck with it. On top of that, I sold the darn Bessa, so the CVBL doesn't even apply. I feel like such a liar... I'm so ashamed. Okay, I'm over it.
