A Hasselblad, more than 40 years after first looking.

This one that I now have is the older, pre-SWC model. The shutter cocking and film winding are separate, so there’s an extra step involved in shooting. Plus I also just picked up the 16s viewfinder mask to go along with a 16s back I have in case I want to shoot the camera in the 4x4 format. The service it just had this week involved a full CLA plus all new seals, so it should be good for another 60+ years 🙂

Wish I had known you were looking for that 16s mask; I have one I bought by mistake, thinking it was the proper mask for 6x4.5. But it's gathering dust, and anyone who might want it is welcome to it. Just let me know!
 
Vince Lupo that's another great photo, love the colour and framing. And lucky you that she carried your 500c/m around, they are heavy! I know this as I was was photographing my partner on a beach 2 weekends ago with my 500c/m, 80mm and 50mm, I should have asked her if she'd mind holding the kit for a while 🙂

I'd love a SWC, on the wishlist but I suspect I need to sell some gear first to justify one.

Actually I don't find the 500c/m all that hateful in terms of weight - the 1000f is lighter which of course I appreciate, but maybe just be thankful you're not lugging around a Bronica S2. It weighs a pound heavier than the 500c/m.

I can’t wait to get my SW back and start running some film through it. I’m hoping I can use it for some portraits, among other things.

I could never shoot my Bronica S2 with Nikkor 75 into the sun like that....and expect a decent image.

I remember those dope slaps from my dead Sicilian grandmother, too. They were billed as a gesture of affection, but I always had my doubts!
 
Nice to get that photo of you sent on.

With all your kit can you help me with a problem. The set up for the shot below is the 32mm extension tube and the 60 3.5. Outside then I removed the extension tube - don't worry, in the correct order - but it then soon fell our of my pocket onto the pebbled drive. It seems to have chipped the rim around a rectangle pin next to the rotating slotted cocking coupling. It worked for a couple of shots of the Gardenias I took with the mirror down, but if I prereleased the shutter I then did not get quite the right sound from the leaf shutter I didn't think, and sure enough the frames were blank when I got the negatives back. Still works fine if I don't prerelease the shutter.

Getting the extension tube looked at, let alone fixed, is going to be more expensive than just buying another one, but I would like to understand what has happened and can't find anything addressing this particular point.

Sounds to me like something internal in the tube is impact damaged. I would replace the tube and discard the one that was dropped.
 
I now think it might all be a coincidence, dropping the extension tube. I got some weird behavior of the 60 Distagon, shutter opening only when I ended depression of the shutter release when it was just the lens on the camera. Repeated firing seemed to get it working normally. I then tried the 80 on the extension tube and all worked well, shutter release with mirror up included. Haven’t tried it with a cable release. Shutter release collar all the way to O at all times.
 
The camera seems to be falling apart. I will try again in the morning with the other magazine which has film in it. Now a dry fire with any lens is not possible unless I remove the back I have been using recently. And the 60 still only opens the shutter once the shutter button is released. Can camera virus spread this quickly?

There‘s a thing with Leica Ms where the camera goes AWOL and won’t fire, advance or rewind. You get a dark bag or equivalent and remove the film. You put the baseplate back on and everything seems to work. You load another film and shoot happily for years, none the wiser to what happened. Please tell me there’s a thing like this with Hasselblads.

Meanwhile I better research who services Hasselblad in Melbourne. Do I just send them the 60? I have three other lenses which had been working fine….
