A Hasselblad, more than 40 years after first looking.

One thing I don't have coming for my CFV16, is the original accessories. What do you Guys think I should try to find? I have a case, charger, battery. I found a firewire 800-400 which they reference, and also a Hasselblad Exposure Cable EL (at B&H), which I think I will need to use this with my 500EL/M Body. I also own the 25th Anniversary Model 500C/M, numbered and signed by Dr. Hasselblad. I've received also, from Italy, some drop in 3d printed Masks for the CFV16 format. They work well I like them, I've ordered another set for my other Hassy camera. Anything else I should start searching for? What about the CD that came with it, and the Phocus CD? Can I find those somewhere, should I have them?
Do I need a Battery Adapter for my EL/M, they are 'spensive....

I guess make sure it works with whatever CF cards you have, given its age, or if it will only work with older, smaller capacity cards. Maybe a spare battery? As far as Phocus goes, I’d think that if you have PhotoShop with Camera RAW you shouldn’t need Phocus. As long as whatever program you have can read 3FR files (assuming that’s what it produces), any photo processing program should work.

Regarding the CFV16, if I had one, I'd want to keep my related expenditures modest, and if practical, avoid workflows which require old software or anything like a Power Macintosh G4 unless you really dig vintage computing too (but be warned that can be it's own not-cheap rabbit hole!).

Firmware: Got the latest version?

Phocus software: Will the current (free) version work? Or better yet, will your current software do the job?

Firewire: If you simply must that feature, can you do so via an inexpensive FW-USB converter?

All great points and advice! How I'd love to keep my Hasselblad-related expenditures modest :)

BTW the 'latest' (2015) firmware seems to be here on the Hasselblad site: Downloads

Thanks Vince!

Release Hasselblad CFV16 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Release Hasselblad CFV16. I've waited for twenty years diligently these do not come up often. Used to be cheap, back in the day. With the discovery that "fat pixels" are more desirable than Megapixil Count. The color and "feeling" with the olde CMOS sensor is in my eyes, like Kodachrome 25. Very full color but pleasing to the eye. I should be getting my CFV in a few days. Here it says, put in on, start shooting.

My Hasselblad 70's Blad Basic System by Nokton48, on Flickr

I've been using my olde 70's vintage Hasselblad system in the studio for a while and now I'm getting ready to go out with it. My olde wedding cameras I used up a lot of 220 in those days. I have thinned it down a bit, at one time I had all the lenses. Now the 30 T* Distagon, the 40mm T* Distagon, the 60mm T* Distagon, the 80mm T* Planar, 100 T* Planar, and the 135 T* Bellows Planar, and the 350mm non-T*

CFV16 500CM 100mm Planar ISO 100 by Nokton48, on Flickr

First test of new to me Hasselblad CFV16 Digital Back, 25th Anniversary 500C/M, 100mm T* Planar, EI 200, right out of the box. They are right, it is super easy to use right out of the gate. Ordering some CF Cards, Batteries, a better charger, and will need the EL Cable coming from B&H, what I have is not the right one for my 500 EL/M. When that arrives I will be good to go using either camera. This is a new type of photography to me.

I see that current price for a new Hasselblad 907x base package is 6400 USD which isn't a trivial sum for me, but my lifetime eBay sales to date passed the 50K USD mark long ago. Which blows my mind, because all I do is periodically gather the various tools/toys which have since become dust-collectors, and list the easier-to-ship ones on eBay. And while some of $$ was due to Leica camera sales, much more was just random bric a brac: My old plastic alarm clock, a broken phonograph cartridge from a defunct manufacturer, a new-in-box "Pepper Cannon", a DSL modem (I switched to cable service), a number of radios, my first-generation iPod and iPhone, and countless other items that I'd never remember were it not for the auction photos that I've archived. In fact, financing new toy purchases from eBay sale proceeds has made decluttering almost fun for me!

So does this mean a 907x is in your not-too-distant future?

40 Dist CFV16 EI 200 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Hasselblad 25th Anniversary 500 C/M, 40mm T* black Distagon, Hasselblad CFV16 Digital Back, EI 200, Sandisk 8GB. I like using this lens with the CFV16. A lot of fun to shoot with, there will be a learning curve with this. I am new to Digital.

No, it's still not clear to me that I "need" to venture into larger-than-FF sensor sizes. While I've funded some new-toy purchases from eBay sale proceeds in the past, at the moment, I got no big plans. Maybe that's happiness? In any event, I don't expect 2023 to be a banner year for eBay sales, because most of juicier low-hanging fruit has already been sold, unless you know someone with a Zenit camera fetish!

Ha no unfortunately (fortunately?) I don’t. I’m still dithering about jumping back into the eBay selling pool, I definitely have a fair bit of good stuff I could unload.

The 907x and its back are great, and I can’t see myself moving to another back until a 58x58 version comes out. And if that’s 10 years down the road, well then I guess I’ll be holding onto this camera and back for a while. Hmm maybe that is in fact happiness! Ask me about weird lenses however, different story.

CFV16 ELM 80 T Star Pulso Beauty Light HoneyGrids 10 deg 2 by Nokton48, on Flickr

Here I am playing around with my digital CFV16 Hasselblad Back on my motorized EL/M Body, with 80mm Planar at minimum focus distance. Got a Pulso Beauty Light with a HoneyGrids Ten Degree Grid Attachment straight down. A mirror just off camera right to add some kick light. Love shooting digitally with the EL/M it's very fluid and user friendly in every way so far. Printed out the instruction book it covers a lot. Loving it works so well with my Big Lights
