A J-3 Sample

I got a roll back (BW400CN) that I'd shot half of with my Brian Sweeney shimmed Jupiter-3. I was stopping to pick my son up from daycare and peeked around the doorway - f1.5@1/30 IIRC.

Just had to share.

What a beautiful shot! That expression is priceless! I also like the rendering by that lens, especially the swosh along the left side. I need to get off my butt and take some more photos with my Sweeney J-3.

I rarely get prints (negs only & a CD at Walgreens) but there were some shots on this roll I needed to give away as prints, so I had them done as well as a CD. I pulled them out and saw this one and knew I needed to share it.

I'm always happy to see one of my J-3's in focus. And Relieved! I know this one has a good home. On a Canon 7! And maybe sometimes on a CL.

FRANK! SHAME! AND you call yourself a 50's kind of guy. I guess I'm the ONLY person that will have used that lens.

I can't post too much more till I photograph up the Prominent and S3-2000.

exactly what is happening on the left side of the frame? re: the super OOF area with the sharply defined line...

is that the elde of a doorway or a bookshelf or something? it's a little confusing b/c it seems that there are colors / patters that continue from the OOF area into the area to the left / behind your son.

I was leaning on a half door with the jam very close on the left. There are some stacked cots off to the left as well. He was working on a project at the table and didn't hear me approach. I set up, focused on his ear and then called his name and as he turned he stayed in focus. The funky OOF on the left is neat but distracting. I may well crop this eventually, but this is the full print as produced on the Fuji Frontier.

It certainly looks like some kind of obstruction. It's clearly not caused by the lens but by something in front of it.

Beautiful shot. I'd burn down the out-of-focus blur on the left side to make it less distracting.

Fine picture, William, but then I'm not exactly objective: most of my friends are the age of your subject. Whatever it is down the left edge is not a distraction to me: I'm bothered by the quite large expanse of white.

William,
What do they charge you at Walgreens for developing and CD and how would you rate their scanning?

Raid

Raid, I pay $5.14 for a negs and a CD. The scans are ok - better than what I can do at home with 35mm, but not up to what a pro lab could do. For my non-professional needs they're usually just fine. There are higher and lower res scans on the CD as well - the low res "preview" folder scans are perfect for uploading here, for example.

Plus there is one tech at my local Walgreen's who really knows the Frontier and shoots film herself. That's a major bonus.

On the rare occasions I need better, I'll go to my FLCS and have them rescan the negs.

William: I was happy with the color scans from Sam's Club until I posted some B&W scans recently and I received all kind of negative crticisim for the scanning. I don't know anymore if the scanning of B&W negatives is a more difficult task with the Frontier compared to a scan of a color scan. Price is the same as with Walgreens ... about $5 for 24exp/35exp color film. I wonder whether scanning negatives myself with my older Nikon Coolscan III is not better. It gives me 6MB/7MB files.
