With my predilection for Fuji glass, this could almost be reason enough to buy a Leica--- maybe? Is it worth it?

The Link... What happened to ability to link

What is it? Oh, what the hell, of course I need one!/T

Copy and pasted pages on eBay used to link... now don't. What happened there?

So, copy and paste this address:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Fuji-Photo-for-..._W0QQitemZ370129727320QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_D efaultDomain_0?hash=item370129727320&_trksid=p3286 .c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1| 240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A5|294%3A50

WELL OK>>now works as a link??? Yep!

They sell to rich, to very rich people and for the ones that have a lot of money to spend and do not know how. Or to the winners of Euromillions (EU persons know what I'm refering to).

Hypotheses about their business model range from "there is a new sucker born every second" over fake sales for the sake of pushing the value of gear they sell elsewhere and under other names, a forefront to some Ponzi scheme, to regular money laundering.

My guess is a mix of 1 and 2, i.e. they use their ebay front to generate a "price list" used as a sales argument, to talk nouveau rich wannabe collectors into overpriced items from some appearently unconnected shop. "Hey, 5,000 is cheap, the same went on ebay for 12,000 last year".

With prices several times those of regular Sotheby's auctions, they certainly aren't catering for experienced high-end collectors.

And in fact, if the purpose is to generate a false market, it can be done very simply by having two or three other accounts for the purpose of shilling prices up. There would be no complaints through the auction system, AND occasionally a valid bidder might be pulled into the auction action. I do know that some sellers use inflated BIN prices to seduce bidders to higher prices. I never let BIN prices influence my assessment of value. I always do my research on "completed listings". Even then, I require a pattern of prices in "completed listings", rather than just the last 2 o 3 completed items.

There are four Must Have Leica Items that everybody must have:

1. M3
2. Summicron 35mm
3. Summicron 50mm
4. Summicron 90mm

The "rest" is optional.

It's like the 3 fundamental books that an anthropologist must read, to be a true one! :D

But can we only have 2 like the M3 and one lens? And if the one lens is a 35-90mm?

I thought the key to their success was the "Fabio of Hong Kong" dude.

With their prices, all they have to do is occasionally find some poor sap with more money than brains who doesn't mind taking it up the ARSEnal on overpriced photo baubles.
Have no clue how these guys stay in business -- do you think they ever sell anything?

I bought a lens from their HK unit last year.:bang: When it arrived, it was trash...aperture ring was loose and lens was extremely dirty...it was rated by them as a 9+. To their credit, I sent the lens back and got a refund of my purchase price within a week. Of course I had to eat the shipping costs. I think their philosophy is to send out crap in hopes the return shipping costs will deter people from returning items.

No No No -- The four Leica 'must haves' are:

1) Luftwaffe Leica IIIc w/Black Mooly Motor
2) Haber & Fink Lens Turret (w/ appropriate body and lenses of course)
3) Luftwaffe Leica IIIb w/Mooly Motor
4) Leica I (C) Standard w/Hugo Meyer Megoflex

And if you want to add a 50/1.5 Xenon and a 105/6.3 Mountain Elmar, well I suppose we can allow those too :p
