I rang Ffordes on Monday to ask them to change the shipping address of my M2 to my father's house as he worked from home. they agreed. i rang again today to find out where it is as the package still hadn't arrived only to be told that due to a glitch in the website on Saturday my camera had been sold to someone else
So here i am, destined it seems not to own a Leica. I called around to see if i could find anything comparrable but only fould lovely clean examples upwards of £550
a little too much for what i want.
All i want is an M2 user - i don't even mind what kind of rewind it has and i don't use self timers.
Daing.

550 GBP shouldn't be a problem, I think. That is just over 600 euros. No worries!

You were checking on shipping so I guess that means you had already paid for the camera?
And Ffordes re-sold it? With out your permission?
Sounds like you should lean on them a bit and see if they will find you another M2 for what you already paid. I've not dealt with theses folks but they seem to have a good reputation and part of maintaining such a reputation is making things right with your customers in some way.
Lay a guilt trip on 'em.

I don't think it's Ffordes fault - i don't know if i was the first person to go through the buying process but it was all confirmed. they didn't take the money though so other than the sincere apology i got i don't think there's much more they could do. it's just a shame that i had a day off today for a job interview and planned on rewarding myself with spending the day playing with the new toy but now i've gotta start the process of finding one and waiting for mr. posty all over again.
ah well, worse things happen.

Well, at least there are lots of M2s around. Ideally Ffordes would give you first refusal on the very next M2 they get.
And, when you do find "your" M2, it should be all the sweeter for having to have worked so hard for it.
Good huting!

For that amount of money you should be able to get an M2. My own example, a bit worn but in a dignified way, was 380 euros. CLA was another 200, but that would still be within your budget. And mine is absolutely brilliant. I have no doubt it will outlive me.
You probably know that an M4-2 can be had for even less...

I had seen that one but i must admit that i'm dubious of buying overseas from eBay, i always feel that the country divide would do nothing but make any potential problems worse.
if someone messes me around from the UK on eBay i'll have their address so i can always go over to their house and break their legs

I generally find Ffordes to be very good, but not impressive in this respect. They have sold items that I had bought and paid for, to other buyers, more than once. They also refused to send something that I bought and paid for that was mispriced (too low, but not an obvious error) and sent a refund.

If you are not hell-bent on a M2, MWClassic have several M3 for 299 to 399 quids. And you can ask them to source you a M2 as well, I think it wont take more than a week.
Aperture in London currently has in stock two M2 in Exc condition for £530 and £450 respectively, see here for more details: http://www.apertureuk.com/used-Lei.htm

(I'd offer to sell you my M2 but a) it's rather more of a beater than you're probably after, and b) I'd miss it so)

Say, if you don't care about collector's criteria, just get an M4-P then. Easier to load film and just as friendly to wide-angle lenses. Cheaper too, or at least mine was.

The reason i was trying to avoid settling for an M3 because i really would miss that 35mm frameline.
All i have to do now is wait for Friday.
