As I'm taking my Leica IIIf everywhere lately, I need a bag/case for it. I got the original never ready case but
a) I can't trust it, as the leather is really worn out
b) It doesn't work with a (small) hood attached to my summar.

I am aware that there are the 'long nose' versions of these cases designed for the summarit, but they are expensive in good condition and i don't like the camera fastened to the bag. Plus reliability would still be questionable.

So what I'm looking for a modern camera bag with a realiable strap and good padding (or leather?). All I could find online were half cases for screwmount leicas but that's not what I want. I thought there might be a nice bag for one of the recent mirrorless system cameras that might fit. Just to be clear: I don't need (and don't really want) additional space for lenses etc.

Any ideas? Anyone making new (full) cases for Leica screwmount cameras?

Thanks in advance,
Thomas.

There are tons of modern padded small camera bags meant for point and shoot digital cameras that your lllf will fit.

I'd look at the OpTech and Zing line of neoprene camera cases. They make a range of simple camera cases that can fit a lot of different cameras, take just a moment to put on or take off, and are very protective without being bulky.

(I was out shooting with my RoBoT Star 50 on the weekend and realized that I had nothing to protect it if I didn't want to carry a camera bag. I found an OpTech dMini camera case fit it perfectly at the local camera shop. The case comes off in a second when I want to shoot, and goes back on in a second too.)

Seconded!

for a small bag take a look at the domke 5xa...

A bit bigger than what I had in mind but still very nice and a compact solution when carrying a bit more (my iiif + 2 lenses + filters + lightmeter). Never bought a camera bag and now i think I need two

I picked one of these up at a thrift store because it looked perfect for what you describe, though I don't have a leica, there are a lot of cameras about that size. 30 bucks seems a bit high to me though. Tamrac 5692 Digital 2 Camera Bag, http://www.amazon.com/Tamrac-5692-D...04X0ZG/ref=pd_sim_sbs_p_5/185-9843592-4558718

They have both velcro and the clip thing to close the case, I can't stand that ripping sound so I'll just cover one side of the velcro with a scrap of it. Strap is too short to go across my chest, but you can clip a different one on. They also have a Digital 3 which is larger, I'm not sure about your hood...

Took some measurements. It's 2.5 inches front to back, would stretch to 3 without too much tension, imo. 5.5 inches deep, sags to 5.75-6 with a camera in. The logo is easy to remove so it's all black.
