Hey, Joe, Robert... a blog sounds like a good way to go.
But, what is the first step? And the second step and so on toward getting a blog? Hire someone?
I can't afford that right now.
I know everybody says they are easy but I would need a step-by-step for Dummies course!

. . . In Texas we say there are only 2 kinds of people, Texans and those who wish they were. . .
You're not at all biased, then?
There are at least three kinds...

Great mag...read it every month where I get a haircut. Think I will mosey over to the local supermarket and pick up a copy for the weekend. After that, another trip to the library for a follow-up to the book "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil"...what a great read that was!

Enjoy the journey and good shooting! If you need an example of how not to do it look up the Miami to New Orleans on the British show 'Top Gear'.
For the record, the division between east and west (or more aptly south and west) is between Dallas and Fort Worth. Basically, once you run out of pine trees you are out of the south as far as Texas goes.

Just came across this iPad app for displaying reportages, I think the blog sounds good, I'm just mentioning this in case it takes your interest.
Thanks Lynn....between you, Joe and Robert, I am leaning towards a blog and an iPad. Huge decision here with no financial means but if I can at least get a blog up, it will be helpful as the project goes along, not to mention exposure through sharing as it progresses.
Got a lot of research and reading to do this weekend.

As a fellow traveler who is about to start a year long trip, how are you financing the trip Dave? I've been busting my hump for the better part or a year and should be able to live comfortably (to my standards anyways) for about 12 months.

On a shoestring...literally.
The travelling part is not the only cost consideration here. Processing, editing, gear, computers, and printing the final book...daunting.

I stand corrected.
And there is definitely a fourth---those who aren't welcome, but #'s 3 and 4 aren't here---thank goodness!

Texas is the only state allowed to secede from the United States---see Texas Annexation Treaty of 1848, and could survive quite well without the other 49 states.
They couldn't do very well without us, however!
Here are a few of the reasons that Texas is the place to be, now and in the future!
1. NASA is just south of Houston , Texas . We control the space industry.
2. We refine over 85% of the gasoline in the United States .
3. Defense Industry--we have over 65% of it.
4. Oil - we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years.
5. Natural Gas - again we have all we need
6. Computer Industry - we lead the nation in producing computer chips and communications equipment -small companies like Texas Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor,Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Microconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Nortel, Alcatel, etc, etc. The list goes on and on.
7. Medical Care - We have the research centers for cancer research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world, as well as other large health centers. The HoustonMedical Center alone employees over 65,000 people.
8. We have enough colleges to keep us getting smarter: University of
Texas , Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas Christian, Rice, SMU, University
of Dallas , University of Houston , Baylor, UNT ( University ofNorth
Texas ), Texas Women's University, etc. Ivy grows better in the South anyway.
9. We have an intelligent and energetic work force, and it isn't restricted by a bunch of unions. Here in Texas , it's a Right to Work State and, therefore, it's every man and women for themselves. We just go out and get the job done. And if we don't like the way one company operates, we get a job somewhere else.
10. We have essential control of the paper, plastics, and insurance industries, etc.
11. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard, the Texas Air National Guard, and several military bases. We don't have an Army, but since everybody down here has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we can raise an Army in 24 hours if we need one. If the situation really gets bad, we can always call the Department of Public Safety and ask them to send over the Texas Rangers.
12. We are totally self-sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs, and several types of grain, fruit and vegetables, and let's not forget seafood from the Gulf. Also, everybody down here knows how to cook them so that they taste good. Don't need any food.
13. Three of the ten largest cities in the United States , and twenty- three of the 100 largest cities in the United States , are located in Texas. And Texas also has more land than California , New York , New Jersey , Connecticut , Delaware , Hawaii , Massachusetts , Maryland , Rhode Island and Vermont combined.
14. Trade: Three of the ten largest ports in the United States are located in Texas .
15. We also manufacture cars down here, but we don't need to. You see, nothing rusts in Texas, so our vehicles stay beautiful and run well for decades.
16. And we have no Texas state income tax!
Come on down!

This threat seems to be headed toward the same bash the South vent by those who don't have a clue, just as during the last one, which was deleted.
Actually, with the exception of the one cautionary post about Texas law and photography (are you denying that law actually exists?), most everyone here seems to be enthusiastic about Dave's project.

Good light with the project Dave. As for blogging, try Blogger. It's free & it's simple. If I can figure out just the basics of blogging then you can.
