Only thing stopping me from selling my m240 is the iso performance of the CCD. I just take photographs too often indoors and in the evening.
But then again that has always been the only thing that has always stopped me from switching back from my M240 to the M9.
If they would somehow manage to increase high iso performance of the CCD sensor just one stop above the M9, I'll be standing in line.

Actually these Demos are going less than 6k already on Ebay and you have $100 ebay bucks to earn, even sweeter if you have a 10% off coupon.
Most them are from authorized dealers, and most likely 2-digit shutter counts or less

Assuming it comes in at the same price point as the current M-E,
This could seriously reduce sales of the M240. Given that a lot of M users really don't care much about the video and live view options.
It kind of makes "high ISO" the main differentiator

A quick read of the article suggests that the "new" ME is a minor refresh of the existing platform. As such, my only "feature" request is that the reliability be greatly improved over the existing digital M's!

If the only thing they did was to replace the shutter with a quiet one, it would be enough. The main reason I went from M9 to M240 was the sound of the shutter. I never really liked the noise that my M9 made.

It's funny how the little things mean so much.
The shutter re-cocking noise is very disruptive for me as well.
Replacing it would endear me to a new ME in a very big way.
As I posted earlier... I think Leica would benefit from this as well.

I would love a re-cocking lever like in the Epson R-D1. But it would probably be too retro for most people. Personally I find advancing the film with the lever always very satisfying on my film cameras.

I sent my M240 back but I definitely miss the shutter recocking noise. It actually sounded like a real Leica in my hands.
However, I have decided that I will not be buying another digital Leica in the near, or far, future. The reality is that I still do really enjoy using my M9 and I stretched myself pretty far when I bought it. I know that 30 years is a long time for a digital camera but the M9 will need to last at least as long as my M6 has.
The M240 was a hit to my credit card that I was able to recover from thanks to a generous return policy. After I bought it I realized that the upgrade from M9 to M240 was a bit like upgrading to the M7 from the M6. It wasn't worth the cost for me. Moving from the M9 to an upgraded M-E will be more of the same.
But I will miss that quiet shutter. 🙁

Ah. Another M9 variant with the same sensor that will probably suffer from coating delamination and maybe even fungus within a few months to a year of use. *sarcasm*

Let's hope that Leica has the wisdom to basically make it a stripped down 240 without video, EVF shoe, LED frame lines etc. Same features as the M-E, but with the guts of a 240 (and that includes the much improved shutter release, buffer, processing power, battery life, dynamic range etc).
Using the +7 year old CCD from the M8/M9 makes no sense anymore. Is it even still in production? With all of the issues that they have had you would think they would be glad to move on.

My camera has a historical record of having gone back 3 times for such problems.
It's probably due to the fact that the sensor coating isn't very durable in high humidity environments.

That would essentially kill off the M240. Unless the new camera, with your specs, was debadged and sold at a premium over theM240. Perhaps marketed as a P version. That's not what the rumor claims though.

Sadly the rumoured upgrade hasn't materialised which now places me in a quandry. I've had approval from the in-house CFO for several months now (based on a significant birthday) for purchase of my dream rangefinder. I felt there was no way I could justify the cost of the M240 but the M-E seemed to fit the bill.....almost. The screen and battery life are concerns.
When rumours of a revised version, which would address these issues, broke, it seemed like the answer. However, now I don't know whether to continue to hold out in the hope that a better M-E will arrive or to just go ahead and bite the bullet. This isn't a case of simply waiting for a newer shinier model but rather for a newer model which might resolve well documented issues with the current design.
What would you do?

You can find mint-ish M240s for ~$5000 now. The blemished ones are probably even cheaper...Would that be within the realm of affordability?
I would go with an M240. A better camera in many, many ways.

Me, I'd hold-out for an M240. Based on your concerns, the screen of an M-E isn't going to get bigger and battery drain isn't going to get better.
Though for myself, I've carried an M8.2 for the past 5 years and found changing batteries not a big issue, especially compared to changing film every 35 frames. An M-E or M9 though will drain them quicker, however.
I also only really use the screen for histograms since I have trouble really seeing an LCD screen on any camera outside, even on my Canon 6D. Image-wise, I can verify framing, but that's about it.
Inside, sure, a better screen means better ability to review images, but inside, a couple more stops of ISO couldn't hurt either.
My 2c, FWIW.
